PEORIA NEXT FOR SOUTHWEST SPRINTS;
R.J. TAKES CASA GRANDE!
Canyon Speedway Park hosts the next event for the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars, on September 28. Point leaders R.J. Johnson and Charles Davis Jr. enter that race separated by 79 points in the latest standings after they finished 1-2 in last Saturday’s race at Casa Grande, Ariz.
Johnson, of Phoenix, Ariz., recorded his ninth victory of the 2013 campaign Saturday night at Central Arizona Raceway. He snatched the lead from Davis on lap 27 and led the final four laps to beat Davis, Shon Deskins, Aaron Reutzel and Mike Martin. Josh Pelkey had led the first 25 laps of the race.
Johnson’s victory was his ninth in USAC racing in Arizona, two behind all-time leader Davis, who has 11.
