The racing at 34 was pretty good. At the beginning of the night the crowd was a little less than what I expected but as the night went on it ended up good.
When I first showed up I thought the track looked dry. Was expecting rubber to lay down before the 410 feature.
McCarl looked fastest in his heat as did the other heavy hitters. The heats seemed to be fastest on the top with a few going low on 3/4 and making it work, TMAC being one of these.
With the dud starting on the front I know he'd be hard to beat. He's a professional bottom feeder and that's where he was the majority of the night for the feature. The 305 feature was okay with many drivers running the bottom. I was hoping this wasn't the case for the feature and was afraid that a rubbered down freight train would end the night of pretty good racing. Brown, who was running 2nd gain on Mark Burch's 1m a little earlier on but Danny was soo good through traffic. When I thought a car was running low, Danny would some how slip under them exiting the turn. For as many cars as there were on the bottom I thought some of the leaders would get bunched up and try the top and even when they did it still wasn't as fast to get a lot of momentum. Tmac got a bad start and I think ended up 5th or 6th. Looking at his twitter feed he was expecting rubber to take, so I'm guessing he missed his set up and fought the car all night. The Dude won in his wolf weld again, easily.
Side notes:
Paul Neinhauser looked fast in his heat and okay in the feature. For being only 16 I think you'll hear his name more and more locally. He pulled away, AWAY from Brown in the heat. Maybe Brown had it in cruse control in his #2 transfer spot.
Does the entire Scheiderman's family race?
Ian Madsen and his 1st year team are impressive. I honestly don't expect them to continually run for the Knoxville Championship. I'd be surpised if they don't start to travel a bit more but who knows.
Is Brown the best team, not named Larson and Kaeding not on the tour? He's great with the fans, fun to watch. great sponsorship and always gives props to those helping him.
Kade Higday, Josh's son, will be running 305 pts at Knoxville next year. Good to see him get some laps in.
Can we call the Jason Johnson the rajun cajun anymore? I think they announced over the PA he's residing in MO. Does he even have a team with Steinhouse? With him stationed in Missouri maybe we'll see him at the big half mile in Knoxville next season.
34 is a nice facility and I appreciate they support sprint car racing in SE Iowa. There seemed to be some issues with lining up the cars and getting the each of the races going but overall I thought they did a good job and hope they continue to have future sprint car events...with that said Knoxville Raceway is a fine tuned, oiled machine, all the way from the concessions to the flagman. I took a noob to Knoxville raceway this year and he noticed that Knoxville runs the show very well. He mentioned that the four wheel guys, and pace trucks know exactly where to line up be ready. After being at a few other tracks this year it's evident that Knoxville has the management and manpower to run such a show and it's something that I take for granted.
Brian Brown I need 24/7 Casey's to be open between 34 and Osky after the races!
