BUD KAEDING SCORES $7,500 VICTORY AT CALISTOGA

CALISTOGA, CA – SEPTEMBER 3, 2013... Taking the lead from “The Demon” Damion Gardner on lap sixteen, Bud Kaeding of Campbell won the opening night of the “6th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic.” The $7,500 Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car triumph at Calistoga Speedway was Kaeding’s sixth career series victory and first win of the season. Gardner, Mike Spencer, Ryan Bernal, and Nic Faas rounded out the top five drivers.

Piloting Junior Bowman’s #29 Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding Performance Maxim, Bud Kaeding qualified ninth out of the thirty-four cars in the pit area and ran third in his heat race. Starting on the pole position, the 3-time Oval Nationals Champion had fallen back to fifth before making his charge to the front. After a caution flag was displayed on lap 15, Bud grabbed the lead on the restart and sailed to victory. To date, Kaeding has one dash win, one Competition Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Semi-Main win, ten top-10 finishes, and 40 feature laps led to his credit.

After leading the first fifteen laps, Concord’s “The Demon” Damion Gardner had to settle for second at Calistoga. Racing Mark Alexander’s #4A Scott Sales Company / Advanced Racing Suspension Spike, the “World’s Fastest Sprint Car Driver” timed in seventh quick and claimed second in his heat race. The USAC/CRA point leader has five main event wins, four Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, six heat race victories, one dash win, fifteen top-10 finishes, and 106 feature laps led on the year.

Mike Spencer of Temecula raced to third in the Saturday night feature after starting sixth. Driving Ron Chaffin’s #50 Grubstake Mini Storage / Madera Produce Maxim, the five-time champion earned his fifth Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award and scored fourth in his heat race. Currently, Spencer is third in points with one feature win, four heat race victories, one Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics Hard Charger Award, twelve top-10 finishes, and 17 feature laps led in 2013.

Hollister’s Ryan Bernal claimed fourth at Calistoga Speedway after starting seventh. Piloting Keith Ford’s #73 Berry Pack / King Racing Products Spike, Bernal qualified third overall, ran fifth in his heat race, and won the 12-lap Competition Suspension Inc. / Rod End Supply Semi-Main. The 2-time Santa Maria track champion has one feature win, one Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award, two Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics Hard Charger Awards, eight top-10 finishes, and 36 feature laps led on the season.

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach scored fifth in the 30-lap main event after running second in the opening laps. Driving Mark Alexander’s #4 Scott Sales Company / Competition Suspension Inc. Spike, the former USAC Western Midget Champion was second quick in time trials and won the DJ Safety Heat Race #2 by nearly a straightaway. Running second in points, Faas has two feature wins, three Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, four heat race victories, fourteen top-10 finishes, and 47 feature laps led.

Sebastopol’s Bradley Terrell was the highest finishing 360 and earned the night’s Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with a twelfth place run from twenty-first. Racing the family owned #43 Millhouse Glass / Papa Enterprises A.R.T., the Petaluma winged 360 veteran also scored third in his heat race.

Galt’s Matt Streeter won the program’s 8-lap Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. Piloting his #14JR T&T Trucking / Simpson Racing Products Maxim, the former BCRA Midget Champion timed in twenty-second fast in time trials and placed fifteenth in the main event.

Colby Copeland of Roseville debuted a brand new racecar and won the Saldana Racing Products / Circle Track Performance Heat Race #3. Driving Clark Melgoza’s #23 Bianchi Farms / Kyle Larson Racing Maxim, Copeland qualified twentieth and drove to tenth in the feature from seventeenth.

Buena Park’s Brody Roa was awarded the win in the Weld Racing / SBI Fuel Systems Heat Race #4 after Austin Williams missed the scales. Racing the BR Performance #91 HD Industries / Burris Racing Spike, Roa was fourth quick in time trials before scoring fourteenth in the main event. To date, last year’s Yuma winner has two heat race victories and seven top-10 finishes on the year.
