My lovely wife of 19 years who knows absolutly nothing about the Chili Bowl has purchased 2 tickets for my 15 year old son and I to go to the race. Problem is all she bought were 2 pit pass vouchers. She did not know that this did not include a seat to watch the race. What do i do now? Is there any hope @ all to see any racing? Is this going to be a total waste of money? I dont want to go there(Flying from PA),spend money to get hotel and then stand in the pits with out seeing the race. I dont even care if we need to stand the whole time were there, but i want to see the track. Can anybody give me some info on what i should do? :(

Take a look at http://www.chilibowl.com website and notice the panaromic photograph of the racetrack (hit refresh if the pit picture comes up, they rotate them) Notice the backstrech grandstands stretching all the way from the white and orange banners to turn 3 underneath the videoboard. That seating is for the pit area and is first come/first served. In order to get a decent seat for Saturday you will have to be in line before they open the pits and most likely have at least one of you stay in the seats all day from 1pm until it's over around 10 pm. If you do that you will have decent seats, depending on your preference. Weds/Thurs/Fri will be crowded back there but not too bad.

You'll be fine, it's all that they say it is and that much more....thank your wife and enjoy!

Raz - Are the vouchers for all 5 nights?

Tuesday will be general admission for $20

Also, if you can, get rid of the vouchers on this message board or Ebay and buy some grandstand tickets on here or just show up and there will be plenty for sale out front of the building at face value.

If not, like Speedbump says, sit on the backstretch but GET THERE EARLY AND NEVER LEAVE THE SEAT(S) UNATTENDED!

You're gonna have a blast and you'll also have something to do on the 2nd week of January for the rest of your life!!!

I'd go even if I couldn't see a thing and I'd tell the wife it was the most wonderful time I'd ever had, only thing could have been better was if she was there and you all sat in the grandstands. She bought race stuff for you - that's one hell of a woman, do what it takes to make sure she buys you more race stuff. If you don't go, she'll be pissed forever and racing will always be the cause of the pain.

Just like fishing or hunting: a bad day at the chili bowl is better than a good day at most other things. The seat that i have is close to the pit area seating, and the view of the track is great. As others have said, get there early, enjoy the show, and plan to spend the next years of your life going back there.

Raz59, you married well. Only the very finest of the species we call wives have the perception, the good taste, and the love to buy CB tickets. Then again, she may just want you out of the house. Standing outside the ChiliBowl is a better racing experience than sitting in the VIP box at any other event.

Since my wife bought our first tickets 3 years ago, our marriage and our lives have improved, like maybe 20 percent, and we look forward to the deepest darkest week of January. You really have very little choice. The ChiliBowl has chosen you. So play it by ear. Save your marriage...she is a Princess amongst women. Trust that there will be ticket sellersoutside the door. All is well.

Well, thanks to everyone for the info. I have made up my mind to go for it. I would still like to get reserved seats if i can. If you know of anyone who has some, let me know. You can e-mail me @ [email protected] If i can come up with reserved seats, I will have 2 pit passes available for all 5 nights. I cant wait to get there.
