Don't look now, but Kyle Larson is a legit threat to challenge for the Nationwide championship. Even if you hate Nascar--and most of you do--you have to give this kid his due. I believe he has the longest current streak of top 10's in the series and is sitting in 6th place in the points, 42 behind the leader. He continues to gain points and positions and I think his first victory is coming soon. Unbelievable for someone who hadn't even run one of these cars until the 1st race of the season.

Is he cheated up enough to win the championship?

One of his greatest traits is he adapts to any situation he's put in. This kid can drive anything. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in an Indy car before it's all said and done.

I had the pleasure to watch him at Knoxville last night. What a talent. Great car control. I wish I could have seen AJ, Mario and other older racers who raced anything, anywhere, anytime to see how Kyle compares. I look forward to watching him run in any series. He's the real deal. ps. His buddy Rico Abreu is no slouch. Finished 3rd in the 2nd feature last night in only his 2nd night at Knoxville. Both should be fun to watch in The Nationals.

The 15 cant win every year----something has to break on his car not too! I dont see Tony Stewart on the entry`s but IF he does he has a good as shot as anybody. Right now Dobmeier and Brian Brown have a very real shot at this thing.

Wouldn't that be a sight if Dobmeier or Brown won it? The loudest crowd at any event I have ever been at was when Shaffer won in 2010. I think the crowd would be even louder if one of those two won. I will go with a different driver this year though. Pittman wins it. He just didn't quite have enough last year. He has enough car this year. Just my prediction.

I did and you can't compare them because no only are the cars different with the big wide tires etc, with the safety they have today it makes some a lot braver. If Kyle had made some (one could be enough) of the same mistakes he's made in his short "big time" career back in the day, he'd be dead.

Don't you think Kyle would have been aware of those limitations back in the day?

I'm saying he wouldn't be able to drive with wild abandon like he can today. A whole different style of racing back when AJ and Mario were in open cockpit cars with just roll bars and of course, no wings! More respect and no cheap bonzi slide jobs just for starters. Hey, and back in the day Sprints ran for the most part on 1/2 mile tracks, while the big cars ran on the mile. Bull rings were for Midgets, not Sprint cars with Midget dove tail tanks.

I totally agree, some crazy moves you see today weren't possible back in the day!

Even louder than the cheers and boo's (mostly cheers) when Sammy was standing on his car after the flat tire a few years ago?

That's bullshit Kenny! The kid can flat out drive anything he jumps into. Thats what Tony and Jeff have said and they haven't won all three divisions at Eldora either. The kid doesn't need to run for a openwheel championship when all he does is win some of the biggest race's in all openwheel divisions. Considering his age and that HE doesn't over drive the car he is definitely like the other greats who have run. Like Jack Hewitt said "the kid is unbelievable, but didn't beat in a mod." Though Kyle would've raced one if it was available. No one since Tony is like him and even Tony hasn't done what he has done in a short amount of time. Nor-Cal will produce another eventually, because they can run all three styles.
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

Tell me what part of my post was bullshit, break it down for me will ya? The question was about Mario and Foyt, was it not? I'm glad to see Nor Cal is starting to run more non wing stuff, it's about damn time. Don't be such pom pom girl to me rj, I didn't in my post or ever bad mouth the kid; so settle the hell down.LOL

The cars are different for everybody now. To say he wouldn't have been good in a different era is dumb. If you are going to win in this era you have to take the chances you never had to. That would be like saying those guys wouldn't have the balls to win in this era. With todays cars the guy being slid lifts less often and when they run over a right rear or get the front wheels hit it is the sliders fault. Back in the day they used both pedals and avoided that so they didn't die. He probably would've dominated even more back in the day when it was more driver than motor!
