CANYON SPEEDWAY PARK HOSTS “3RD ANNUAL SUMMER SIZZLE” SATURDAY

PEORIA, AZ – JUNE 24, 2013... This Saturday, June 29th, the cars and stars of the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will return to their home track for the popular “3rd Annual Summer Sizzle.” The showcase at Kevin Montgomery’s Canyon Speedway Park will also feature Mini Sprints, LoanMart Challenge Cup Sprints, Viper Smart Pure Stocks, and AMA Modlites. The Front Gates will open at 5:00pm with Racing scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.

R.J. Johnson of Phoenix sits atop the standings with a 77 point advantage over the competition. Piloting Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson claimed second last Saturday at Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande. To date, the winner of the inaugural “Summer Sizzle” has six feature wins, five heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one hard charger award, eleven top-10 finishes, and 127 feature laps led. R.J. will be looking to extend his point lead with another “Summer Sizzle” main event win.

Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. is second in the point chase. Driving the Massey Motorsports' #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis ran sixth at Casa Grande after starting thirteenth. Entering Saturday’s race, the five-time Arizona Champion has two feature wins, three heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one semi-main win, eleven top-10 finishes, and 61 feature laps led on the year. “Chargin” Charles will be one of the favorites to watch at Canyon Speedway Park.

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin of Yuma sits third in the point standings. Racing his #16 Ultimate Offroad / Naquin Precision Earth Moving Maxim, Martin scored fifth at Casa Grande and won his fifth heat race of the campaign. Currently, “The Magic Man” has one feature win, one fast time award, eight top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led in the season. On Saturday, Mike will have his sights on adding the “Summer Sizzle” to his win list.

Phoenix’s Shon Deskins is fourth in the championship points. Piloting his #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars entry, Deskins claimed third at Central Arizona Raceway and won his fifth heat race of 2013. The veteran driver hast yet to win a feature, but has one hard charger award, and eight top-10 finishes to his credit. Shon will be looking to breakthrough with a 30-lap feature win this Saturday night.

Ronnie Clark of Tucson is fifth in the USAC SouthWest point standings. Driving the family owned #6 RCM / Ellis Race Cars machine, Clark scored seventh in the Casa Grande main event. As this writing goes to press, Ronnie has yet to claim a main event in 2013, but has one heat race victory and seven top-10 finishes on the season. Like Deskins, Clark will have his sights on winning the “3rd Annual Summer Sizzle.”

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Josh Pelkey, Chris Bonneau, Stevie Sussex, Andy Reinbold, Justin Quinn, Brian Hosford, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Bryan Swinehart, Tom Ogle, last year’s Summer Sizzle winner Mike Bonneau, Tom Ogle, “The Bullet” Bob Ream Jr., James Aragon, Nathan High, Steven Harms, Nick Aiuto, Jody Wirth, and more.

Canyon Speedway Park is located at 9777 West Carefree Highway in Peoria, Arizona. To get to the track, take Lake Pleasant Parkway, then 1.3 miles west on Carefree Highway. Adult Tickets are $15 with $2 discounts available for Seniors, Military, and Students. Kids Tickets (7-12) are $6 and Children (6 and under) are FREE.
