CHICO, CA – The Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series returns to action this weekend with two events at two race tracks from the north state to the north bay. On Friday night the series will return to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for its second appearance of the year on the famed quarter-mile. Saturday night the winged warriors will travel to Petaluma Speedway to make their first appearance of the year on the 3/8 mile track.

Heading into the two day event, defending champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn of continues to lead the point standings in the series in which he has claimed three driving championships in his career. For the entire season thus far, Forsberg remains winless in the Civil War series but holds an impressive record consisting of seven top five feature events so far. This weekend the driver that race fans either love or love to hate enters the twin events with a 13-point advantage over Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park.

Forsberg will focus on ending his long dry spell this Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Last year Forsberg used his talented skills and competitive nature to win both the Civil War title and the Silver Dollar Speedway title in the same season. The driver known as "Mr. Excitement" became the first one to win both titles in the same year in the history of the series and is always a force to be reckoned when he returns to the Silver Dollar clay.

Much like Forsberg, Rollag also has served his time on Silver Dollar Speedway. Last year the Rohnert Park native drove his way to the Rookie of the Year title in the weekly series at the dollar and trails Forsberg by just 13-points. Colby Wiesz of Colfax is third in the standings. Wiesz won the last Civil War event at Silver Dollar Speedway over the Memorial Day weekend event.

Rounding out the top five is Elk Grove's Greg DeCaires in fourth and Sacramento's Mike Henry in the fifth position. DeCaires is the 2005 series champion while Henry has two series championships to his name. A total of 51-points separates fifth from first place in the standings.

Sitting just a notch out of the top five is Placerville's Andy Gregg. Gregg is currently sixth in the point standings and will enter the event in the wake of his recent series victory at Marysville Raceway Park during the sixth round of action two weeks ago.

Following the Friday night event at Silver Dollar Speedway, the Civil War Series will head to Petaluma Speedway for the ninth leg of the 15-race series. In this event many fans and drivers alike will be setting their sights on teen age sensation Alyssa Geving of Penngrove. Last Saturday night Geving made history at her home track of Petaluma Speedway when she not only became just the second female racer to win a sprint car event there but became the youngest lady racer in California to accomplish the feat at just 15-years of age.

Geving's efforts followed several early season top runs at Petaluma Speedway and ended a short streak of misfortune aboard her family owned #3 sprint car. The daughter of veteran track champion Gary Geving is eager to compete in California's most competitive series this Saturday night.

"I'm really excited to be running the Civil War this Saturday at Petaluma," said Geving, a student at Ursuline High School where she has a 4.14 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. "I wish we could do both Chico and Petaluma but with just one car right now we don't want to take a chance on running at Chico and not being able to race at home. I feel I can do better at Petaluma since I have been running well there lately. I love racing with the Civil War Series and I'm looking forward to Saturday."

Geving has competed in two Civil War events so far this season. Her first event was at Placerville Speedway followed by an appearance at Silver Dollar Speedway. In 2008 she plans on running the entire series to compete for Rookie of the Year honors.
