Brady Bacon – Indiana Midget Week Opens Tomorrow!
(Bill W) June 11, 2013 – Brady Bacon is preparing for Indiana Midget Week, which opens tomorrow night in Gas City. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver will pilot the Wilke-Pak Motorsports entry throughout the week, which continues Thursday at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Friday at Bloomington Speedway, Saturday at Lawrenceburg Speedway and Sunday at Kokomo Speedway. He may also mix in some companion sprint shows with the Hoffman #69 team. The team just completed the "Eastern Storm" in Pennsylvania last weekend.
Last Wednesday saw the tour begin at the Grandview Speedway near Bechtelsville. After qualifying eighth, Brady won his heat and placed ninth in the main event. "We were really good out there as long as the track was," he says of the Pennsylvania venues. "Grandview ended up slick, slick, slick. We did end up in the top ten every night out there, but that's really not up to either the Hoffman team or my standards."
After a rainout at Path Valley Speedway, the series headed for Port Royal Speedway on Saturday. Brady was 13th quick, but suffered some problems in the heat. "We were really good at Port Royal," he says. "We ended up breaking in the heat race while leading, and we had to go through the B though."
Starting twelfth in the feature on the big half-mile, Brady advanced to a fourth place finish. "There was a good cushion to run on," he says. "We had the fastest lap times in the feature; we just had to start twelfth. When Dave Darland is out front by himself on a track like that, it's going to be tough to catch him."
The "Eastern Storm" rounded out Sunday at Susquehanna Speedway near Newberrytown. "It started out really well at Susquehanna," says Brady. "That's after we changed the motor. Something had broken in the injectors. We took precautionary measures and changed it. We were able to qualify third, and run from sixth to second in the heat race."
It was all Brady could do to hold onto tenth in the feature. "The cushion, or what there was of it, just went all the way to the wall," he says. "We were just struggling to get something to get a hold of in the middle. We'll be trying some different things to help us move forward."
In addition to running the midget, it will be a good week for Brady and the Hoffman team to work on their Indiana set-ups this week. "I think we're going to be running a couple of the shows in the sprint," he says. "We'll be getting ready for Michigan and Terre Haute the following week. This will also help us for Indiana Sprintweek in July."
