USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINT CARS RETURN TO QUEEN CREEK SATURDAY

PEORIA, AZ – JUNE 4, 2013... This Saturday, June 8th, the cars and stars of the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will make their third visit to Queen Creek's Arizona Speedway. Located within the ET Motopark, the action packed card will showcase Pure Stocks, Mod Lites, and Bombers. The Front Gates will open at 5:00pm and Racing at the popular 3/8-mile facility is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.

Entering Saturday’s race R.J. Johnson of Phoenix has a 69 point advantage over the competition. Piloting Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson swept the two-day “Salute To Indy” and scored his fourth straight victory. With six wins overall, the USAC/CRA “Copper On Dirt” winner has four heat race victories, two Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash wins, one hard charger award, nine top-10 finishes, and 127 feature laps led to his credit. R.J. will have his sights on another feature win and continuing his championship bid.

Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. is second in the point standings. Driving the Massey Motorsports' #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply entry, Davis earned a second and ninth place finish in the “Salute To Indy” weekend. Currently, the five-time Arizona Champion has one feature win, two heat race victories, one Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash win, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, nine top-10 finishes, and 36 feature laps led. The veteran driver will be looking to gain valuable points with a victory at Arizona Speedway.

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin of Yuma has climbed to third in the championship points. Racing his #16 Ultimate Offroad / Naquin Precision Earth Moving Maxim, Martin scored two fourth place runs at the “Salute To Indy.” To date, the USAC National “Hall of Fame Classic” champion has one feature win, one fast time award, three heat race victories, six top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led to his credit. On Saturday, Martin will be one of the favorites to watch at Queen Creek.

Phoenix’s Shon Deskins has moved to fourth in the point chase. Piloting his #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars entry, Deskins placed seventh and third in the weekend at Canyon Speedway Park. The veteran driver has tied Johnson for the series lead with four heat race victories along with one hard charger award and six top-10 finishes on the season. Deskins will be looking to add Saturday’s main event at Arizona Speedway to his win list.

Ronnie Clark of Tucson sits fifth in the point standings. Driving the family owned #6 RCM / Ellis Race Cars machine, Clark scored a twelfth and fifteenth place finish at the “Salute To Indy” weekend. As this writing goes to press, the veteran driver has one heat race victory and five top-10 finishes in the campaign. Ronnie claimed an ASCS Canyon Sprint victory at Arizona Speedway last year and will have his sights on returning to victory circle.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Josh Pelkey, Chris Bonneau, Stevie Sussex, Bryan Swinehart, Andy Reinbold, Justin Quinn, Brian Hosford, Tom Ogle, Bruce St. James, Mike Bonneau, “The Bullet” Bob Ream Jr., Nathan High, James Aragon, and more.

Arizona Speedway is located at 47346 N. Ironwood Road in Queen Creek, just five miles south of Mesa. To get to the track, exit Ironwood Drive on US 60, then head four miles south. Adult Tickets are $15, Senior Tickets are $12, Kids Tickets (7-12) are $5, and Children 6 and under are FREE.
