THREE STRAIGHT WINS FOR R.J. JOHNSON AT CANYON SPEEDWAY PARK

PEORIA, AZ – MAY 26, 2013... R.J. Johnson of Phoenix continues to have his best season to date after scoring his third straight USAC SouthWest Sprint Car victory of the year. The point leader led all 30-laps to claim Saturday’s $1,500 “Salute To Indy” main event at Canyon Speedway Park. Following Johnson to the checkered flags were “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr., Josh Hodges, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, and Andy Reinbold.

Racing Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, R.J. Johnson placed second in his heat race and ran second in the night’s 6-lap dash. After Saturday’s main event, the USAC/CRA “Copper On Dirt” winner has four heat race victories, one Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash win, one hard charger award, eight top-10 finishes, and 97 main event laps led to his credit.

Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. claimed second in the Saturday night feature. Piloting the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply entry, Davis was third in his heat race and scored third in the dash. To date, the five-time Arizona Champion has one feature win, two heat race victories, one Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash win, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, eight top-10 finishes, and 36 feature laps led on the season.

Josh Hodges made the tow from Tijeras, New Mexico and finished third in the 30-lap main event. Driving the family owned #74X Napa Auto Parts / Mesilla Valley Transportation Maxim, Hodges won the night’s second Racers Advantage Store Heat Race and scored fifth in the dash. In limited starts with the USAC SouthWest series, Josh has two heat race victories and two top-10 finishes.

Yuma’s “The Magic Man” Mike Martin claimed fourth at the checkered flags. Racing his #16 Ultimate Offroad / Naquin Precision Earth Moving Maxim, Martin won the program’s first Racers Advantage Store Heat Race and scored fourth in the dash. Currently, Mike has one feature win, one fast time awards, three heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and 24 feature laps led in the campaign.

Andy Reinbold of Gilbert charged to fifth from the twelfth starting spot. Piloting Todd Underwood’s #19 AME Electrical / Ross Equipment Rentals RSS, Reinbold was fourth in his heat race and did not qualify for the dash. The veteran driver left the night’s action with one semi-main win and six top-10 finishes on the year.

Shon Deskins of Phoenix earned the night's "Hard Charger / Best Passing Job" honors with a seventh place run after starting eighteenth. Driving #20 Performance Plus / Ellis Race Cars entry, Deskins was sixth in his heat race and was not eligible for the dash. To date, Shon has three heat race victories and five top-10 finishes in 2013.

Goodyear’s Nathan High won the night’s third 8-lap Racers Advantage Store Heat Race, Racing his #1A Pro Tech Coatings / KSE Custom Drywall Maxim, High was eighth in the dash and ran ninth in the Saturday feature. In limited starts, Nathan has two heat race victories, one semi-main win, one hard charger award, and three top-10 finishes on the season.

“The Bullet” Bob Ream Jr. of Glendale won his first Sunoco Fuels Passing Masters Dash of the Year. Piloting the BRAT Racing #8 Hose Advantage Store / Racers Advantage Store Viper, Ream was fourth in his heat race and claimed sixth in the main event. Currently, the former Arizona Sprint Car Champion has one heat race victory and three top-10 finishes in the campaign.

Peoria’s Josh Pelkey won the program’s 12-lap semi-main event. Driving Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts DRC, Pelkey scored eighth in his heat race and charged to eighth in the feature from seventeenth. The former Arizona Sprint Car Champion has one heat race victory and seven top-10 finishes on the year.
