They said it was the last heat of sprintcars where two drivers were killed. Thoughts and prayrs to everyone involved in this sad accedent. I think it was in the winged Spec Sprints (KWS Lights).

Such a bad holiday weekend along with what happened at Bloomington on Friday night. RIP to all the drivers involved. I guess they passed away doing what they loved. My condolences to all their families and friends.

They race sprint cars at Reno. There is a local group besides KWS Lites. Wasn't on KWS schedule so I assume it was the local drivers who race at Lovelock and Fernley. There is another group that also was racing at Elko, they are the Ruby Mountain sprints.

We were there and it was the Dwarf division, not Sprint, main event and it was the last lap right at the finish line. The #86 car went too wide on the final turn, lost control and slid into the wall on the grandstand straightaway. Another car hit him and some others were involved in what didn't look that bad at that point. But it was the #8 car that hit one of them (and I'm thinking it was the #86, but may be mistaken) at full speed as a car slid down the track in front of him. The #8 popped up and came to a halt fairly quickly, so it was a massive hit. I thought the #86 driver and some of the others had left their cars and it was only the #8 driver who was left in his vehicle. They called in a medical helicopter and had the fans leave the grandstands. There didn't seem to be a lot of activity around the #8 driver so we thought he was stable at the time (and, perhaps he is). One thing I will say about this race, was the unreal number of cautions that were thrown. I think two drivers were black flagged for multiple spinouts (which, in retrospect, saved them from possible harm). But, quite frankly, this horrific accident could have been prevented if not for a quick, and pointless, yellow flag thrown on the last lap. The last lap was run on a green/white flag as an accident in the prior lap had brought out another yellow. The leader, #16, had jumped to the lead and had pulled away along with #86 and, I believe, #40. They were already in the third turn when a slower car near the back spun while exiting turn two (it's a 3/8 oval). So there was no reason to throw the yellow as the leaders would have flowed through the fourth turn, hit the checkered flag on the straightaway and let off the gas naturally as the race was over long before coming up on the spun-out car. Plus, I think the spun-out car managed to get himself going in a second or two anyway. I was grumbling along with the fans around me about that flag. Little did we know, what was set into motion.
I found this on the link so it must have been dwarf cars just the same what a loss for our racing friends.
