Brady Bacon – Winging It!

(Bill W) March 6, 2013 – After three USAC events in Florida, Brady Bacon had the wing back on the car in a two-night event last weekend at Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, Arizona. The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma native battled with none other than Tony Stewart in the finale to place third. This week, he has a trio of shows planned with the World of Outlaws in Las Vegas and Tucson, Arizona.

Things started a little tough in Friday's heat race. Brady drove Shawn Petersen's #4x for the weekend. "We just didn't get going very well in the heat," he say of his fifth place finish. "We missed it a little bit. We didn't get a good start, and it was hard to pass. We changed some things. We were able to get going pretty well in the B (which he won)."

Brady would post from inside row nine in the feature, but he would suffer a DNF. "We were moving up in the A," he says. "We had a top ten car at the least. The engine got hot, and I pulled it off."

In Saturday's finale, Brady would drive from fourth to second in his heat. "We missed the redraw (for the main event) by one spot (seventh)," he says. "That was too bad. We got a really good start though, and had things rolling."

Advancing from inside row four, he was soon challenging for the runner-up position. Then he was battling with a driver who had been competing at Daytona the Sunday prior. "We were battling there with Lucas Wolfe for second for a while," says Brady. "They kind of got away from me in traffic. Tony (Stewart) slid in front of us with five or ten to go. I kind of had lost track of the racetrack. It was moving around a lot, going from the top, to the middle, to the bottom."

A good battle ensued, with Brady winning the third position at the finish line. "There was stuff being thrown up from the bottom, and we ran the middle for a while," he says. "He got by me, and I went to the top of three and four and inched by him. We really raced hard for four or five laps. We were able to get to the checkered and hang onto third."

Brady was content with his finish on Saturday. "I was really happy with everything, considering I felt like I struggled there last year," he admits. "We tried some different things and they worked out…so I was definitely happy with that."

Tonight and tomorrow night, Brady will compete with the World of Outlaws in Las Vegas, before moving on to Tucson Saturday. "I'm really looking forward to running with the Outlaws in Vegas and at Tucson," he says. "I'll be running Petersen's car with my engine in it."
