2013 USAC WESTERN CLASSIC SERIES PREVIEW & SCHEDULE

SANTA MARIA, CA - JANUARY 31, 2013... USAC Western Region Director Chris Kearns has announced the 2013 schedule for the Western Classic Racing Series (WCRS). The third season for the Northern California based group will showcase an all-dirt campaign with eleven nights of action. Starting April 19th at Watsonville, the traditional sprint cars will return to Placerville, Calistoga, and Chico. In addition, the series will make their debuts at the new Stockton 99 Dirt Track and Nevada’s Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway.
John Prentice's Ocean Speedway in Watsonville has four dates on the calendar. The Western Classic Sprints will invade the Santa Cruz Fairgrounds 1/4-mile oval on April 19th, June 14th, July 12th, and August 9th. The June and August races are co-sanctioned with USAC/CRA and the “Howard Kaeding Classic” in July could play a key role in the championship. Last season, Mike Spencer won two main events at Ocean and other victories were claimed by Ryan Bernal and Hall of Fame Driver Brent Kaeding. Alan Handy’s Placerville Speedway will showcase one event on the schedule. The WCRS will battle at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds 1/4-mile track on May 4th. Last August, Kyle Hirst raced to the “Mike McCreary Classic” victory aboard the Ken Pierson/Dave Vertullo entry. For more details on the Placerville date, check out www.placervillespeedway.com.
On June 21st, the USAC Sprints will make their only appearance at the brand new Stockton 99 Dirt Track. Located on the San Joaquin Fairgrounds, the 3/8-mile clay oval is promoted by Tony & Carol Noceti. For more information on the Stockton race, visit www.stockton99.com.
Dan Simpson’s Reno Tahoe Fernley Speedway will host two shows on the calendar. The Fernley, Nevada 3/8-mile track will host the WCRS on August 17th and a later date in October. For more details on the Fernley races, check out www.rtfspeedway.com.
Starting August 31st, the scenic Calistoga Speedway will showcase the two-day "Louie Vermeil Classic." Co-sanctioned with the USAC/CRA Sprints, the popular event will also host the Western Midget Series, vintage cars, autograph sessions, auctions, wine tasting, and more. Last year, Ryan Bernal and Kyle Hirst scored victories at the famed Napa County Fairgrounds 1/2-mile oval. On Thursday, September 5th, the WCRS will showcase their only event at Dennis Gage's Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Held during the famed "Gold Cup Race of Champions," this is a "must see event" at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds 1/4-mile facility. Last August, Kyle Hirst won the “Wayne Sue Classic” and Kyle Larson won his second “Tiner Family Classic” in September. For more details on the Chico race, check out www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
The USAC Western Awards Banquet will be held on February 9th at the Woodland Auto Display in Paso Robles. In addition to the Western Classic Sprints, the USAC/CRA Sprints, West Coast Sprints, Western Midgets, and Ignite Midgets will be honored. Tickets are $40 and everyone attending will get free admission to the Auto Collection Museum.
