Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. is the defending champion of the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series, which opens its 2013 campaign with a half-dozen races in January and February at Canyon Raceway Park in Peoria, Ariz. The 26-race calendar also concludes its run with three events at Peoria in November.
The “Winter Challenge” offers six “special events” offering USAC Southwest Sprint points at the Arizona oval and the “Western World Championships” will present similar Southwest Sprint point races at season’s end.
The slate also includes races at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Dirt Track, Thunderbowl Speedway in Tulare, Calif., Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway, Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. and the Santa Maria (Calif.) Speedway.
The West Coast “point” season officially opens with a March 15-16 event at Tulare and the champion is expected to be crowned October 12 at Hanford.
Six different drivers, led by Bud Kaeding and Ryan Bernal with four each, posted feature wins during the 2012 West Coast Sprint Car Series.
Kaeding, who was honored December 7 at USAC’s National “Night of Champions” Banquet in Indianapolis, Ind., is among 2012 USAC Champions slated for additional recognition at the USAC Western Awards Banquet February 9 in Paso Robles, Calif.
