Brady Bacon – Western World Closes ASCS Season Starting Tonight!

(Bill W) November 15, 2012 – The Lucas Oil ASCS National Series season will come to an end this weekend at the Canyon Speedway Park near Peoria, Arizona. Both wing and non-wing action will be on the card starting tonight and ending on Saturday, and Brady Bacon will be in the middle of it all, running both classes. Last weekend, the highlight was a charge from 13th to 8th at Las Cruces.

On Friday, things started at El Paso Raceway Park. Brady was in the back of the pack on a one-lane track in the heat. "They just put too much water on it," he says of the track. "There were a lot of sprint cars, but only one support class. It just never got widened out. We started seventh in a really good heat race. We were able to get by one car, but we were pretty much stuck back there in sixth."

Things didn't go any different in the B main. "Obviously, it wasn't ideal to start in the back of the B," says Brady. "It was the same situation. We couldn't make up any ground. The cushion was only about halfway up the racetrack, and it wasn't very wide to start with, and we had to take a provisional."

The main event ended in a DNF. "We got up over the cushion a little bit and came down and clipped the right front," says Brady. "We weren't able to make the repairs we needed to make in time to get back out. That ended El Paso."

It was on to the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Saturday. Brady finished second in his heat, and transferred to the feature. "We had a little better night," he says. "We were able to finish second in the heat. We started 13th in the feature. We got over the top of the racetrack and fell back to 17th or 18th."

Brady would rebound. "We were able to get back up to eighth by the end of the race," he says. "The track was pretty heavy right up until the feature. We still had some pretty heavy spots out there. We were really tight all night long. We were fortunate have a car to get as far forward as we did with the track the way it was."

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver explained his schedule for the weekend. "We're running the wing car Thursday (tonight), and the non-wing on Friday. We'll be doing our best to win them both on Saturday."
