Kerry Madsen – Williams Grove Open Looms This Weekend!

(Bill W) September 27, 2012 – One of the biggest events on the calendar is upon us, and Kerry Madsen and the Keneric Racing #29 are ready to take on the Pennsylvania Posse in this weekend's Williams Grove Open near Mechanicsburg. The St. Mary's, New South Wales driver has had a busy two weeks since his return from California.

Things started on Friday, September 14 at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa. Kerry qualified twelfth and ran third in his heat. "We had a pretty good racecar really," he says. "We qualified pretty well…I don't really remember the heat."

The memory was fuzzy because of a hard crash in the feature. "On a restart, I was going around the top of one and two and made contact with Kraig Kinser," says Kerry. "I think it was a racing deal. I didn't really see him coming and I went flipping into the air. At most places, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but at Spencer they have those concrete blocks and it pushed the cage down. It was a bit of a rattler."

Kerry was happy with the way the chassis held up despite the hard contact with a concrete block. "It stunk because we lost the motor," he says. "We at least had to send it back to be looked at…hopefully, it's o.k. As far as our chassis (KPC), Steve Kent does a great job on the safety side of things. It would be hard for any frame to hit a concrete block like that. I'm just thankful that Steve does such a great job."

The following night, all was good at Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minnesota. Kerry registered quick time of the night and finished seventh in the main event. "We pulled another car down," he says. "We were quick time off the bat. That was pretty bad-ass, really. We had a little run going, and we ended up seventh. I made a couple of errors trying to make things happen. It was still a good run considering Spencer."

A week ago Wednesday, the World of Outlaws visited Eagle (NE) Raceway, and Kerry had his best finish of the week. "We qualified seventh, so we missed out on the Dash," he says. "That put us starting back in eleventh. We were able to move up to fifth and get the hard-charger on kind of a one-lane track. I was pleased that we were able to do that."

After a rainout last Friday at Eldora Speedway, it was time to head back to Lernerville Speedway near Sarver, Pennsylvania on Saturday. Kerry qualified eleventh, ran second in his heat and ninth in the Dash. After a first lap tangle, he went to work. "We got jammed up in a racing deal with Sammy (Swindell) in the first corner and ended up on our side," he says. "We were able to come from the back to come up to tenth. Without that incident, I think we definitely had a top five car there. That part was disappointing."

Kerry hopes he can put himself in position to win the Morgan Hughes National Open worth $50,000 this weekend at Williams Grove Speedway. "We've been really hot and cold there," he admits. "We've been really quick lately. I'm a little nervous about it, but excited at the same time. That's a big race. That's their Knoxville Nationals. The atmosphere is always amazing. I love those fans."
