6th Annual ‘Oklahoma State Championship’

Tulsa
Oklahoma (September 12. 2012) – Carter – Maxwell, a Goodyear tire distributor based in
Bethany Oklahoma with a lengthy and loyal relationship with the Akron Ohio tire
manufacturer, presents the “Oklahoma State Championship” for the Oil Capital Racing Series winged
sprint cars this Saturday night. The 6th annual event will be held
once again at the only home this prestigious racing event has ever known;
George Welch’s “Oklahoma
Sports Park” in Ada Oklahoma.
$4,000 To
Win Waiting To Be Taken!
$2,000
to win is straight up on the line for the 2012 edition of the OSC with $1,500 slated
for the runner-up and $1,000 for the show position. Factor in the $2,000 bonus
from The Oil Medics, a Ft.
Worth Texas based lubrication company, should the pole position starter elect
to take the ‘Back Row Challenge’ and sweep the field from the last starting
spot, the 2012 OSC could be the highest paying event in OCRS history with a
total payout of $4,000 to win! Non-Qualifiers into the A Feature will receive $125
each plus the first 10 that do not transfer will also receive a $50 certificate
from Carter-Maxwell.
“The involvement of Carter-Maxwell as our title sponsor is
one of great appreciation,” said OCRS series president Barry Grabel. “We lost a
dear friend in Jerry (Maxwell, co-founder of Carter-Maxwell) last month and
while the company was going to sponsor this special event anyway, it just seems
fitting that we are able to honor a man that has been so very special to the
world of auto racing as well.” Maxwell, along with friend and partner Bob
Carter started Carter-Maxwell in the late 50’s. In 1964, their business was
flourishing and the business became the southwest distributor of the famous
Goodyear Racing Tires, a partnership between the two companies that is still
intact today. Grabel added: “David Grace of Carter-Maxwell was very
instrumental in putting this deal together and OCRS is extremely appreciative
to him for all he has done for the series. Carter-Maxwell has a good man on
their team. These are the type of people we need in our sport. Not just for the
financial end of it, but also for the fact these people understand the
importance in being in involved for the betterment of the sport.”

The BIG Guns Are Coming!
Several of the regions best Champ Sprint teams are scheduled to compete for
the awesomely designed clear acrylic trophy including:
Jamie Passmore

Howard Photo
Hottest driver on the circuit having won 11 of 18 OCRS events in the
2012 season. ‘Jammin Jamie’ leads the Goodyear Tire and Rubber / OCRS
Championship chase by 190 points over Danny Smith. Should Passmore leave OSP
with a 191 marker lead, he will clinch his fourth OCRS title. Passmore won
titles in 2008-2010. With all his success, Passmore is looking for his first
OSC title.
Whit Gastineau

A
solid choice on any tote board, the “Gasman” collects his share of hardware
having won 16 features since 2010 including the 2010 OSC and four in 2012
including the last two tour stops. The number 2w is a rocket ship.
Danny Smith

Smith
was the creator of ‘OCRS’ having started the series in 2002. He is as dedicated
and loyal to the series as they come. Smith currently sits second in points and
has scored two wins in 2012. Smith won the OSC event in 2008.
Sean McClelland

shown with Carter-Maxwell engineer David Grace, won OCRS titles in 2002-03 and
2011. McClelland is a veteran that has the utmost respect of his peers when he
rolls onto the track for his exceptional talent. Looking for his first OSC
title.
Mike Goodman

Add
Goodman to your list of savvy veterans that is a proven winner. Goodman won
OCRS championships in 2004-05 and in 2007. Goodman is no stranger to this event
as he won the initial OSC in 2007. Experience and crew chief Matt Thomason are
Goodman’s key weapons.

Owens mashes the gas every time he makes an OCRS visit.
The team is from nearby Pauls Valley and many fans will be cheering for the
#33. Owens would no doubt rack up some wins if the team were able to venture
out more. The improvement of this team with father Glen turning wrenches just
keeps getting better with each passing season. Can he go back-back?
Mike Peters

OCRS
Photo
Peters (left) seen here with OCRS president Barry Grabel, has been
dropping in from Kansas for a few OCRS runs in 2012. Peters has a stellar
resume that many feel should land him in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
Will he pull a Jesse James and take the money and run Saturday night? Keep a
keen eye on the #51 sprinter.
Robert Sellers

Mike

A
multi-time feature winner in the world of sprint cars, Robert Sellers knows how
to get the most out of a 1500 pound speed missile. It would surprise no one if
he were to take the OSC trophy back to Mustang Oklahoma. Underdog? Not hardly.
Shane Sellers

Mike

Shane
is the son of Robert and has learned well from the veteran. This young hard
charger has come into his own is very capable of collecting winning hardware of
his own. The red, white and blue #41 is destined for success in the sprint car
ranks.
While
these highlighted racers have all experienced the thrill of victory, there are
those that like Owens, could pull off an OSC victory with their own
capabilities. Many Oklahoma Sports Park race fans are also excited to see the
ladies of the OCRS series. Shayla Waddell of Oklahoma City, a feature winner in
May and Harli White of Lindsay, are favorites wherever they go and OSP seems to
draw even more fans of these two young racers. Should this year’s edition of
the OSC provide a slither of excitement as past OSC events have, this years
running will be another memorable one for the scrapbooks.
