McCorkell extends lease at Jackson Speedway

JACKSON -
Jackson Speedway Promoter Jon McCorkell
and the racing committee of the Jackson County Commissioners have verbally agreed to a one-year
extension on the current lease at the track.
McCorkell
and the committee reached the agreement at their annual season wrap-up meeting Friday.
With the current state of the racing industry, racing promoters across the
country have been working to keep the numbers of racers and fans at all
levels at levels that will continue to support
auto racing.
McCorkell said
one of the biggest challenges going into the 2013 season at Jackson
Speedway will be to
keep the sprint car numbers up.
Plans are for sprint
cars and all of the IMCA classes to continue to run in Jackson, but there will be
some changes to the racing program next year. The 360 sprints may
run a few less times and the status of the 305 class is not known.
A possibility for 2013 may involve the construction
of a mini-sprint track in the infield.
Promotions at the track such as
the Spring Nationals and the Big Bike Night will
continue.
