Tulsa
Oklahoma (September 4, 2012)- School has begun in many
districts. Football has taken to the fields and wouldn’t you know it, we have
seen a couple of stores start stocking Christmas items. Really? Christmas items
on shelves in September? These happenings, particularly the latter, are telltale
signs the 2012 racing season is nearing a conclusion. For the race fan, this is
a period of sadness and joy. Sadness in the fact their favorite sport will soon
be in hibernation till the next action packed season. There’s joy in the fact
that outside temperatures have lowered themselves to comfortable levels for
ultimate outdoor enjoyment and that the sounds of compressed horsepower
belching through their exhaust systems will be savored like the last scoops of
their favorite ice cream.
These
final weeks of the Oil Capital Racing Series season will be savored and enjoyed
by many fans and race teams alike. It is not uncommon to see some sprint car
teams that have been MIA make their way to the oval playgrounds as they too
wish to get in their pre post-season adrenalin rush before placing their war
chariots on jack stands for the winter.

The run
for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber / OCRS Championship along with the battles
within the top ten for bragging rights is down to its final five events for
2012 with two shows taking place this weekend. Here is a look at the tracks hosting
this weeks racing action:

Under
the direction of Stanley and Dennis Slader, Thunderbird Speedway sits on the
fairgrounds in Muskogee Oklahoma and is the lone remaining ½ mile track in the
state. The track has historically held some of the greatest racing action seen
anywhere. When fans are asked what draws them to Thunderbird Speedway, the
answers are often the same, they cite the sure speed these cars produce on long
straight-a-ways that seem longer than a lengthy highway in the flatlands of
America. It takes the bravest of the brave to stab their 1500 pound winged missiles
into turns one and three after screaming down those long straights. Drivers will
tell you that to take such stabs 50 times or more in an A Feature is a head rush
better than any kind of rush they could imagine.
Thunderbirds
½ mile can bite you in a heartbeat as Whit Gastineau found out.

OCRS points leader Jamie Passmore will look to complete
the three race T-Bird sweep in 2012 having won the OCRS tour stops in May and
July. 2011 OCRS champion Sean McClelland took 2 of 3 T-Bird stops last year
with Whit Gastineau victorious in the first stop in 2011.Danny Smith and Whit Gastineau have
each won twice in 2012 and look to keep Passmore from reaching win number 12.
Thunderbird
Speedway has obtained sponsorship from Jeff Samples Farmers Insurance for what
will be the final stop at T-Bird in 2012. Race fans will have a chance to win a
Kindle Fire mini-tablet computer along with Koozies and Yo-Yo’s from Samples
Insurance.In addition, time
permitting, at the conclusion of the OCRS “Pole Dash” race, all cars competing
in the dash will stop on the front straight where fans will be allowed to come
onto the track for a few minuets for a meet n’ greet session with the OCRS
stars.

Tri-State
Promo Flyer
Promoter Tim Adams of Tri-State Speedway in Pocola
Oklahoma takes the second leg of the weekend doubleheader on Saturday night.
After a successful showing in June where OCRS performed in front of grandstands
that were filled, Adams booked OCRS for an encore performance for his fan base
for 2012. The well banked 3/8 mile facility lends its self to a style of racing
where proper set up is key. Those that can “lock down” their rear wheels are
the ones that will have the majority of success.
When
the OCRS sprints visited last June, Tri-State fans were greeted by OCRS drivers
at intermission for an autograph session and in turn, the fans visited the OCRS
teams in the pits for more autographs and picture taking opportunities. Look
for more of the same this Saturday night. The Tri-State event is being
sponsored this time around by: Dillard Muffler, Brake and Tire and by
Schoenfeld Headers.
Some of the OCRS pilots that are expected to spread their
wings at Tri-State include:
Kyle Clark, Fred Mattox, Harli White, Tim Kent, Johnny
Kent, Rafe Essary, Whit Gastineau, Mike Peters, Michael Bookout, Danny Smith,
Alex Sewell and Casey Wills and OCRS points leader Jamie Passmore.
