We are having issues cracking 305 blocks in the #2 cylinder wall, it just happened for the second time this year. The first one was .03 over, and the second was .06 over. So I dont see any correalation there.I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue like it is a common thing for the 305's. Also does anyone know if there are "better" casting numbers to run than others? Any info on this topic would be great, because this is tough on a first year team who is self funded to keep dealing with. Thanks!

We are running right at 38 degrees of timing, that is where it was the happiest on the dyno and the timing mark is only about halfway down the strap. I havent heard about that with the timing, is that just because these blocks arent strong enough? The first one was not crack checked as it was a used motor with only dyno time on it. The second one was magged to check for cracks and nothing was found. And yes it is notched for valve clearance.

I would stay about 36' on the timing. Remember these are 25 year old blocks that have rusted on the inside and they are not as thick as the old 350 blocks, keep it at 30 over on the bore and watch the total timing
