Mark Dobmeier – More
Bad Luck!

July 12, 2012 – The
weekend after winning the World of Outlaws race at Huset’s Speedway sawbad luck rear its ugly head again for the
Dobmeier/Lunstra Motorsports Team. A couple of flat tires while running in the
second position left a sour taste for Mark Dobmeier and his guys as they look
to finally put the bad luck behind them in preparation for the Knoxville
Nationals.
The weekend kicked off at Cedar Lake Speedway outside New
Richmond, Wisconsin with the Outlaws as Dobmeier tried to make it two in a row
with the tour. He started the night off by being second quick out of 28 cars,
and saw himself starting outside row two for the main event after a fourth
place finish in the dash. The Senske & Son J&J patiently worked its way
to the second position late in the race after a caution for race leader Brian
Brown. That is when disaster struck as he was coming to the white flag as he
had a left rear tire go flat. He would find a way to finish, unfortunately it
was in the 16th position after being in the top five for the entire race.
“It has been the story of our year,” Dobmeier stated. “If it
wasn’t for bad luck we wouldn’t have any luck at all. We had a good run going
there, and found ourselves in second behind TK (Tim Kaeding) on the restart and
lost the tire coming to the white. It’s unfortunate, but there isn’t much that
you can do at this point but laugh.”
It was onto Twin Features Night at the Knoxville Raceway in
Knoxville, Iowa following the gut-wrenching night in Wisconsin. Twin Features
Night has been known to ‘make or break’ a team’s year when it comes to the
point standings. A disappointing tenth quick in time trials meant Mark and the
Right Choice Electric #13 would start in that same position in the first
feature. Even with the race going green to checker, Mark was able to work his
way up to finish in the fifth position on a rather heavy race track.
It was onto the second feature and a starting position of
tenth after the invert from the first feature. The Big Trucks by Jimco car
quickly moved its way up to fourth on the second lap and set its sights on
early leader Ian Madsen. He fought his way to the second position after a
restart at the crossed flags and was hanging tough with Madsen. That is until
more bad luck struck, and another left rear tire flew with five laps to go. It
meant a finish in the 14th position and the loss of 60 crucial points in the
standings. The team currently sits fourth in the standings, 151 points behind
Davey Heskin.
“It is almost to the point where it is laughable,” Dobmeier
said in referring to all the blown tires. “We continue to find ourselves in
podium positions only to have tires blow or go flat on us. We don’t know if it’s
a bad tire, abrasiveness, or debris on the track. The luck has to turn around
here at some point. It’s frustrating because my guys are working their tails
off to get us in these positions only to have stupid things happen to this fast
car.”
Next up was a $5,000 to win special thanks to Scott Bolte
Sanitation Sunday night at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota. A healthy
and stellar field of 22 sprinters signed in vying for big payday. Mark
registered second quick, and after a fifth place finish in his heat race, he
found himself starting fifth on the grid for the main event. Dobmeier worked
his way forward throughout to finish in the bridesmaid position behind Terry
McCarl. He was on his way forward after a race-long battle with Lynton Jeffrey.
“The track was fast, but we just couldn’t get around Lynton
since it was so fast,” Dobmeier said. “We finally got around him going into
three, and just ran out of time to have anything for Terry. We got around Gregg
(Bakker) on the last restart with two to go, but couldn’t catch up to the 24.”
“It was refreshing to run up front and not having anything
bad happen for once,” Dobmeier joked.
It is back to the usual slate of racing “Dynamite” and the
team as they plan on River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota on
Friday, Knoxville on Saturday, and ending the week at Huset’s on Sunday. A
re-order of this year’s shirts are in, so come on down to get your apparel
after the races and stop to chat with the team.
