Civil War Series continues the week with Petaluma Speedway stint

PETALUMA, CA - Just after the big July Fourth Tiner Classic at Placerville Speedway, the Civil War Sprint Car Series continues its busy holiday week this Saturday night as it returns to the North Bay for the seventh round of the 2012 series sponsored by Hoosier Racing Tires. The famed 1/3 mile Petaluma Speedway will the competitive series for winged 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars for the second time this season.

As the competitive campaign hits its halfway point in the season, the championship point standings are continuing to remain close as the driver that has dominated this series for the past decade is finding himself being gunned down by a handful of championship hungry wheelmen. This Saturday the Civil War Warriors come together with the Petaluma Posse for a showdown at the coastline that is sure to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.

Entering Saturday's event, six time champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn leads the series point standings. As he heads to the home track for his title sponsor, Pit Stop USA, Forsberg will be looking for a top run to stay afloat at the top of roster as well as have a strong showing for his led investor on his F&F Racing Team. Currently the driver known as Mr. Excitement holds a nine point advantage over Elk Grove's Kyle Hirst.

Hirst closed in on the lead last Wednesday night with a second place run in round six of the campaign at Placerville. Wednesday night winner Colby Wiesz of Colfax is third in the standings, 10-points out of the lead. Stephen Allard of Cameron Park is the current fourth place driver in the points chase. Allard is 14-points out of the lead. Former series champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove rounds out the top five in the point standings.

The top five point runners will be joined by nearly 30 counter parts on Saturday night including several locals. Bradley Terrell of Sebastpol is currently the highest running North Bay driver in the Civil War point standings. The former Petaluma Speedway champion is ninth in the overall point standings. Terrell is expected to be joined by fellow locals Brett Rollag, Matt Sargent Roberto Kirby and many more on Saturday night.

The grandstands will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday with racing starting at 5. Adult tickets are $16, Juniors $12, Seniors are $10. For full information on this event visit www.petaluma-speedway.com or www.civilwarsprints.com.
