"WAR AT THE SHORE" THIS SATURDAY AT SANTA MARIA;
SECOND ROUND OF $15,000 USAC VS. ASCS MINI-SERIES
by Lance Jennings

SANTA MARIA, CA – JULY 4, 2012... This Saturday, July 7th, the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series will battle the ASCS Canyon Region in the "War at the Shore" at Santa Maria Speedway. The second round of the 3-race "Grudge Series" will showcase many of the best non-winged 360 sprint car drivers from California and Arizona in a $2,500-to-win, 30-lap main event. Joining the action packed card will be the West Coast Street Stocks, Richie McGowan Hobby Stocks, Mini Dwarfs, and American/Enduro Stocks. The front gates will open at 4:30pm and racing at "The West Coast's Best Short Track" will start at 6:00pm.

Held in conjunction with the "4th Annual Doug Fort Memorial," Santa Maria's "War at the Shore" could be the key race in the chase for the "Grudge Series" title. Thanks to sponsorship from Southwest Contractors, Hoosier Tire, and ParkerStore of Phoenix, the mini-series has a point fund of $15,000 with $5,000 up for grabs to the champion and $300 for 15th place in points. Like all "Grudge Series" events, Saturday's feature will pay $2,500-to-win and $300-to-start, with a $50 entry fee to all competitors. Promoters Chris Kearns and Kevin Montgomery are looking for more sponsorship to increase the point fund, which is contingent on 100% support of all three events. The finale will be held at Canyon Speedway Park's "Brawl for it All" on September 22nd and the current point fund is listed at the end of this release.

"This is a unique opportunity to bring two series together for three special events with substantial payouts and championship fund," says Kearns. "The two series are very close as far as rules and we are looking forward to letting some talented racers from both series get together to put on great events for the fans."

According to Montgomery, "With the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series adopting the Hoosier 105/16 Medium right rear tire and the weight rule adjustment for both series to 1475lbs, it will closely match the neighboring Sprint Car Series and mark the first time in history that both traveling series will have a unified set of rules."

After winning the March 8th "Sin City Showdown" at Las Vegas, USAC West Coast point leader Bud Kaeding of Campbell also leads the "Grudge Series." R.J. Johnson of Phoenix sits atop the ASCS Canyon standings and ranks seventh in the mini-series. Ryan Bernal, Casey Shuman, Troy Rutherford, "Showtime" Danny Sheridan, USAC/CRA Champion Mike Spencer, Josh Ford, Mike Martin, and Charles Davis Jr. round out the top ten in points.

Santa Maria Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange at 1900 Hutton Road in Nipomo, California. Adult tickets are $16, Senior, Military, and Student tickets (13-17) are $14, Kids tickets (6-12) are $6, and Children’s tickets (5 and under) are FREE.
