USAC/CRA AND WESTERN SPRINTS INVADE OCEAN SPEEDWAY ON FRIDAY
WATSONVILLE,
CALIFORNIA (June 14, 2012) – The roar of non-wing 410 traditional Sprint Cars will hit John
Prentice's Ocean Speedway Watsonville on Friday night, with a combination event
for the USAC/CRA and USAC Western Classic Sprints on tap.Points contenders from both series will
challenge the best local talents in a shootout for the $2500 top prize.
Headlining
the 30 lap feature will be Ocean Speedway favorites Ryan Bernal of Hollister
and Shane Golobic of Fremont. Golobic, who leads the local Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo
winged points, will drive a #46 entry with a 410 underneath it. For Bernal, he will look to go two-for-two in
USAC shows at Ocean after winning the Western race in April. The two-time Ocean Speedway Wingless champion is also sixth in
the USAC/CRA points standings.
Friday's
races mark the first of two appearances by the USAC/CRA and the second of four appearances
by the USAC Western Classic sprints in 2012 at Ocean Speedway Watsonville.
Leading the
USAC/CRA points is Temecula's Mike Spencer
head of Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, CA. The driver
to beat on Friday is sure to be "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman, who has
won the June event at Watsonville the last two years in a row.
Yorba Linda drivers Matt Mitchell and Austin
Williams, and recent Yuma, AZ winner Brody Roa round out the top-five in the
standings. "Cadillac" Cody
Williams, "The Ripper" Rip Williams, and Las Vegas' Seth Wilson are also expected to
compete on Friday.
On the USAC
Western Classic Racing Series side, the fast-female Shauna Hogg of Fair Oaks leads the standings after two races
on pavement and one race on dirt. Hogg
leads the points over 2011 runner-up and eight-time USAC champion Tony Hunt of Lincoln, CA. Other series regulars on the dirt in 2012 include Alamo's Scott Pierovich, Tom Baker, Chico's Taylor Simas, Modesto's Jimmy Riddell, Santa Rosa's Marty Hawkins, and Winton's
Gordon Rodgers.
USAC will
award a bonuses of $500, $300, and $200 to the top-three USAC Western Classic
Racing Series finishers in Friday's event. $200 will be awarded to the highest USAC West Coast 360 entrant in the
race as well.
Friday's
racing activities featuring the USAC/CRA and Western Classic Sprints will
also include Ford Focus, Ford Focus Young Guns, Micro 600s, and IMCA
Modifieds. Adult tickets are $20 with
seniors 65+ $18 and kids ages 6-12 are $15. Qualifying will get underway at approximately 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30
p.m.
