Solid Night By Local Sensation David Tarter

By David Thomas, Contributions by Marie Harlow

Local driver David Tarter marks another night in the books and finished strong on a tough track in the Silver Dollar Fair Civil War 360 Sprint car race this past Sunday night.

Tarter hit the track for qualifying in the 22nd spot of the 43 car field, in a track that was going away fast. Timing in at 13.282 put the Budget Landscaping, RCM Designs #35 car 24th quick for the night. But that time put him on the pole for the 10 car heat race to follow.Leading flag to flag in his heat race, fighting 2011 track champion Tyler Wolf for the lead, and a late race charge by Jake Haulot almost took it away. However, “Tarter-Fish” forced Haulot to settle for 2nd and finished the heat in the number1 position.

The 22 car main event rolled onto the track and Tarter sat back in the 18th starting position with Sean Becker just behind him and local regulars John Michael Bunch and recently returning Mike Monahan making their presence known around him.

When the green flag dropped, it was evident that passing was going to be tough on this rubberdown, tire shredding track. The 35 car never wavered, fighting with every bit he had on a tough track, Tarter battled Monahan at the back of the field for lap after lap. However, when the leaders came around to try and lap Tarter, he wasn’t going down without a fight and kept most of them behind him for the duration of the 30 lap race, settling for the 18th finishing position for the night.

Tarter will be returning back to action in the Friday night point series next Friday, June 8th as the Golden State King of the West series returns on their“Road to Dirt Cup”.We hope to see you there. I know this writer will surely be watching the 35 car in the years to come.

The entire 35 car team would like to thank all of its sponsors for making racing possible in this tough economy, 7up distribution of chico, Russell's Automotive Repair, My media guy, norcal motorcycle repair, California classics auto body, Chico Motorsports, north state auto parts, Chris kenner racing, SRP, vsr steering repair, kevin sharrah designs, platinum powder coating.
