Danny Lasoski Takes MOWA Stop in West Burlington!

(Bill W) May 27, 2012 – A torrid battle for the lead in lapped traffic on Sunday night, ended in disaster for leader, Brian Brown. For Danny Lasoski, who inherited the lead, it was what he needed to record his second career MOWA win. Both have come at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.

Twenty-seven entries checked in to the MOWA event at the 3/8-mile oval. By the time the 20-car, 30-lap feature hit the track, Lasoski started on the pole by virtue of a Dash win. However, it was Brown who raced to lead lap one, from his starting spot inside row two after passing both Lasoski and Jerrod Hull.

Brown cruised out front using both the high and low sides on both ends, while Lasoski followed in pursuit. Brown pulled away until hitting heavy lapped traffic about lap seven. Lasoski reeled him in as the pair tried to lap a trio of cars. On lap nine, Brown and the lapped car of Jeremy Standridge contacted. The result was Brown suffering race ending damage to the left rear wheel. Standridge ended upside down, but was uninjured.

Lasoski assumed the lead ahead of Hull, AJ Bruns, Bobby Mincer in a 360 and Jim Moughan Jr. Lasoski pulled away from there on, and saw little challenge for the lead. One more caution plagued the event on lap 13, when Chris Urish spun. While Hull nailed down second, a battle for third ensued between Moughan and Bruns. In the end, it was Bruns who grabbed the spot. Moughan was fourth ahead of Ryan Bunton.

"He made an excellent move there early to take the lead," said Lasoski of Brown. "You are supposed to do the opposite of what the leader does, and that's what he did. To be honest, it helped me to find out where my car was better. Sometimes it better to be second than out front. I saw he got excited and ran over the lapped car. It was too bad, because it would have been a good one. I came up here when my Dad raced. I liked it then, and I like it now."

"Danny had us covered no doubt," said Hull. "Brian had some hard luck. We put a little harder left rear tire on than we should have, I think. We'll work on it, and get better. Hopefully, we can climb one more spot next time. We'll take a first and a second any day."

"The first part of the race, I was just kind of hanging there," said the third running Bruns. "Once we got to the lapped cars, I started finding something. I had lost a couple spots on the bottom, but the top started rolling for me. I'm just happy to be standing here on the podium with these guys!"

Finishing sixth through tenth were Hard Charger, Ben Wagoner, Ryan Jamison, Mincer, Ian Madsen and Brad Greer. Bret Tripplett, Bruns and Matt Sutton won heat races. Lasoski took quick time and the Dash, and Wagoner won the B main.

The next event on the MOWA schedule will be on Friday, June 15 at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois. For more information, visit www.MidwestOpenWheel.com!

To bad they didn't bother to water the track all day. So they had to rework it 2 or 3 times during the night. That along with 3 support classes and the usual yellow flag festival that comes with them, made for a longer night than it should have been. Had it not been for the contact that eliminated Brown, he and the Dude would have put on a show to remember chasing each other through traffic.

I don't usually respond to posts like this... but I'm going to this time: We raced 6 classes of cars Saturday night and had over 3000 in attendance on Saturday night as well. Not only did we tear the track up at 10:30 until 12:30 Saturday night, but our track crew watered the track from 8:30 am until race time on Sunday. Therefore, I stand to correct you that we didn't bother to water the race track. Time trials were at 7 to 7:30 along with 3 support classes and we were done at 11... 34 Raceway is for sale... how about getting your check book out and purchase it, instead of sitting at a computer criticizing people who work their A$$es off to bring in quality shows for people like you? I'll look forward to your phone call!

I thought it was good racing and things went fairly smooth. I went by the track around 10 a.m. Sunday and they were working on it then. My only complaint is with the MOWA rules, would have been nice to see Brown get a new tire and chase down the Dude. See you at the next sprint invader show at 34. I drive about 2 hours to get there.

Wow, if you are getting 3000 people for your weekly show in a city the size of Burlington you are doing far better then most race tracks. Heck of a job of promoting!

And if things are going that well for you why do you want to sell it?

I'll start by saying I have no idea what the crowd was at Burlington.

That said, promoters in general tend to exaggerate crowd size.

According to the announcer on the PA at Huset's Mon night it was a "capacity crowd". I suppose it was "capacity" for some facility somewhere but not for Huset's.

There was maybe 3000-4000 people there and the joint must hold closer to 10k if its packed.

Saturday night was $5 Fan Appreciation night! There were 3000+ people there. Our grandstand capacity is 4000. Our average grandstands on a weekly basis have been around 1600 to 1800... We have the greatest fans! The track is for sale for because I have an opportunity to purchase the company that I have worked for for the last 17 years! (my real job) I would love the opportunity to discuss further with anyone who is capable of promoting and purchasing the race track! Thanks to all who have supported us and 34 Raceway for many years! I will say it once again... until we sell the track, we are dedicated and pledge to bring the best racing action to 34 Raceway possible. We love our drivers, crews, fans and sponsors! Thank you!
