PLACERVILLE, CA (5-23-07)– The businesses of El Dorado County continue to show early support for the richest night of racing in more than 40 years of racing at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, July 14th, the second annual Mark Forni Memorial.
This week, additional contributors stepped in to announce their participation in the 2007 event. An event that will be the highest paying weekly point race on the west coast to pay tribute to the late Mark D. Forni, a longtime supporter to the sport of local auto racing and the El Dorado County Fair.
Last week the initial group of community sponsors was announced with bonus funds nearing a total of $5,000 more than a month prior to the event. As of today an additional $3500 was added to the purse with the contributions of two additional returning participants to the event.
Hunt and Sons Petroleum has matched the largest sponsor thus far, contributing $2500 to the event. Hunt and Sons Petroleum supplies a wide variety of fuel and lubricants to the heavy equipment industry and the general public in El Dorado and surrounding counties.
For decades, C&H Motor Parts of Placerville has been a top supplier of truck and auto parts in the foothill communities of El Dorado County. Once again, owner Wilbur Howe has stepped in to contribute to the event with a $1000 investment to bring the current bonus fund up to more than $8,000.
DSR Graphics and Signs of Cameron Park has commited to return to the event and will make qualifying more lucrative. Dan Ramey, the former stock car racer who owns and operates the local sign company that specializes in motor sports needs will invet $100 to qualifying. The fifth and 10th fastest drivers in qualifying will each earn a $50 bonus. Regular speedway sponsors Direct Traffic Control and Zam Fencing will also continue to contribute $100 to the fast qualifies of the night.
Last year the inaugural Mark Forni Memorial boasted a purse of more than $20,000 and awarded $5,000 to the winner of the A-feature. With the early interest in participating in the event it is expected this upcoming event will be far richer than the 2006 event. Funds will be distributed in the Winged Sprint Car division as well as the other classes participating on this special night with detailed distribution being announced the week prior to the race.
Sponsorships for the second annual Mark Forni Memorial are open to any business or individual who wishes to become a part of this very special event that will draw a great deal of media attention over the next six weeks. Contributing to this event not only offers a great deal of exposure for a local business or corporation, it gives the community an opportunity to show their support for Mark Forni and his contributions to auto racing and the operations of the El Dorado County Fair.
Sponsorship contributions for the second annual Mark Forni Memorial are being managed once again by Chuck Sept, community representative for the Mark Forni Memorial and Bill Sullivan, Director of Communications for Placerville Speedway.
Those interested in joining the sponsorship of this event can send their inquiries to Bill Sullivan via email at [email protected]. You will then be contacted for further information by either Sept or Sullivan. Inquiries can also contact the track business office at (916) 969-7484.
