Alex Johnson (3-13-12) – Starting the season off with the Lucas Oil America Sprint Car Series in the Southwest, Dustin and the M&M Motorsports team couldn’t be more excited. “The WESMAR was running top notch at the end of last year and ran great in Florida, so going to Arizona for a couple weeks was really exciting” stated Morgan.

The first night of what would end up being a six-race trip saw Dustin pull into Canyon Speedway Park. “Jimmy use to race here back in the Slick 50 days, so I was pretty excited about the track” said Morgan. Ending up with a bad draw, Dustin would work his way from 7th to 3rd in his heat race, locking him in to the A feature where he would start and finish 12th. “The track didn’t produce much passing but we still got a good finish, I was happy with how the night went” Morgan said about the night.

The second night would produce better results as the Full Blown Chaos #2 would end up winning the heat race and starting 8th in the feature. “We had a good car in the feature and that carried over to the A, I was able to get up to about 5th for a while but got messed up a couple of times and fell back to finish 7th. I know we had a top 3 car it was just one of those nights where it wasn’t meant to be” a disappointed Morgan explained.

With a week off in Arizona till the next ASCS National the M&M Motorsports team decided to head West to Las Vegas for the World of Outlaw and USAC 360 Non Wing show. “We had a few days off so we thought we would drop in the 410 and run the 360 with the Non Wings. So we headed West to Vegas” said Morgan.

Arriving to The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the M&M Motorsports 2 would be faced with what was an extremely wet track. However only the Non-Wing car would ever touch the track. “I went out to hot lap the Non Wing car and something was messed up with the rear end, the more RPM’s it got the worse it was vibrating, so I didn’t want to take a risk breaking the car or hurting my feet so we parked it, as for the 410 car when we went to put heat in the motor it wasn’t running right. Jimmy took a look at it and with that being our only 410 along we decided not to risk hurting the motor. It was definitely disappointing and we drew well and I was looking forward to running both cars. But it was better to be safe then sorry, we were in Vegas and it wasn’t a gamble worth taking” a disappointed Morgan explained.

With the Vegas in the rear view mirror, the M&M Motorsports #2 headed Southeast to Somerton, Arizona for the final 2 nights of racing. “This was a new track for the ASCS and that meant we are all on the same playing field, when we got to the track I knew we would be fast” an excited Morgan said. With another good draw, Dustin would go on to win his heat race and be locked into the A through the redraw. With the fans doing the redraw, Dustin was able to get a lucky fan to draw the number 1 pill for him.

“We started on the pole which was nice, I was able to get a nice groove going on the high side, but about half way through I got passed on the bottom and fell back a few spots with lap traffic, I went back to the bottom and was able to get around everyone including the lap cars pretty easy. When I saw those checkers I told my self we finally did it!” an excited Morgan said about his first career ASCS national win. After doing some amazing donuts, Dustin pulled the M&M Motorsports #2 into Cocopah Speedway’s victory lane. This was also a TV race which will be aired at a later time.

With the win in the bag, the M&M Motorsports #2 would be locked into the redraw for the final night, with a 3 pill drawn, Dustin would end up finishing 8th. “Its never fun going backwards, they reworked the track right before the A and we just missed the set up a little bit but still had a decent finish to end the weekend” stated Morgan.

“I can’t thank everyone that has supported me through the years to finally get that first ASCS National Win. I have to thank Mike Martin and Ultimate Offroad of Yuma and Phoenix Arizona, for his hospitality these past two weeks as well as helping out with some expenses over the trip. If you need any work done to your truck or Jeep, Mike is the man to see. I also can’t thank Jimmy Jones, Darren McElhaney, and Alex Johnson for all their hard work; when you have a team that jells together you get the results that we got these past two weeks. Finally I have to thank my Dad, without my Dad’s support I wouldn’t be able to do what I am able to do each week. We will definitely see Victory Lane again before the year is over” explained an excited Dustin.
