MATT MITCHELL SCORES 2ND PERRIS VICTORY
By Lance Jennings

PERRIS, CA – AUGUST 20, 2011… Starting from the sixth starting spot, Yorba Linda's Matt Mitchell used some daring moves to charge forward and score his second Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series victory of the year. Passing "Dynamite" David Cardey of Riverside on lap eight, Mitchell was not to be denied on this night, leading the rest of the way to the checkered flags at Perris Auto Speedway. Nic Faas, Cardey, point leader Mike Spencer, and R.J Johnson rounded out the top five drivers.

Piloting the J.W. Mitchell Motorsports' #37 Mancha Realtors / Sierra Springs Maxim, Matt Mitchell qualified third quick on the night and won his fifth 10-lap event by taking the D.J. Safety Heat Race #3. The former USAC Western Midget Series Rookie of the Year is third in the standings, forty-five points behind Spencer, with nine top-10 finishes, one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award, and forty-nine main event laps led on the season.

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach raced to second after starting eighth in the 30-lap feature. Driving Mark Alexander's #4 Scott Sales Company / VP Racing Fuels Spike, Faas earned his second Sander Engineering Fast Time Award over the 31 car field and was second in his heat race. The former USAC Western Midget Series Champion is second in the standings, thirty-four points behind Spencer, with four heat race victories, two Last Man Standing Dash wins, eight top-10 finishes, and one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award to his credit.

"Dynamite" David Cardey led the first seven laps in his #59 Circle Track Performance / Victory Race Cars Viper before scoring third at the finish. The former California Lightning Sprint Champion was ninth fast on the night and won the Extreme Mufflers / Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror Heat Race #1. To date, Cardey has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, four heat race victories, one Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award, and five top-10 finishes on the year.

Temecula's Mike Spencer of Temecula claimed fourth after having tire problems at the finish line. Piloting Ron Chaffin's #50 Madera Produce / Grubstake Mini Storage Maxim, Spencer qualified fourth quick and finished second in his heat race. The 3-time series champion and current point leader has five feature wins, four Sander Engineering Fast Time Awards, four heat race victories, one Competition Suspension Inc. Semi-Main win, eight top-10 finishes, and 114 feature laps led to his credit.

R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona made a rare Perris appearance and scored fifth in the night's action. Johnson has spent most of the year with the ASCS Canyon 360 Sprints and recently won his first winged Sprint Car feature.

Another Arizona driver to make the trek across the desert was Josh Pelkey of Peoria. Piloting Robbie & Gaye Allen's #12A ABC Auto Body / Advanced Engine Components entry, Pelkey won the Saldana Racing Products / Circle Track Performance Heat Race #2. The former Arizona Sprint Car Champion was tenth quick on the night and claimed twelfth in the 30-lap feature. Like Johnson, Josh has spent most of the year with the ASCS Canyon 360 Sprints and recently competed in the Belleville Midget Nationals.

"The Ripper" Rip Williams of Yorba Linda drove to victory in the Electro Tech Powder Coating / Rod End Supply Heat Race #4. Driving Jack Jory's #3 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Viper, Williams was eighth fast in time trials and scored seventh in the main event. Santa Maria feature winner Austin Williams of Yorba Linda won the 12-lap Competition Suspension Inc. Semi-Main. Piloting Jack Jory's #2 John Jory Corporation / AMA Plastics Viper, Williams was seventh fast, seventh in his heat race, and took ninth in the main event. The 2009 Rookie of the Year is fourth in the standings with one heat race victory, one Keizer Wheel Hard Charger Award, and eight top-10 finishes in the 2011.

Another driver making a race Perris appearance is "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman of Ventura. Driving his #21K Lucas Oil / Sander Engineering Eagle, Kruseman earned the night's Keizer Wheels / Best Passing Job honors with a sixth place run after starting fourteenth. Earlier in the program, the 2005 series champion was fourteenth fast in qualifications and third in his heat race.
