Well, let's see. In the sprint heats I think I saw 1 car go to the front. Other than that there wasn't any passing.Personally I don't find that very exciting. I like to see cars go fast just as much as anyone, but I also like to see some racing. I also don't like to see that many cars tore up. Every flip in the sprint cars was from hooking the cushion or just bicycling. Personally last weeks track was far better. There was passing all over the place. But hey, I keep going back week in and week out, so as long I am donating to the jacka$$ promoter, I can't bitch.

I think a lock down tacky track is the worst thing there is to race on. That takes 90% of the driving out of the race. I like a dry over a tacky. A dry track takes alot of the BS out of a race. No one can complain that it was all horse power. It also makes it alot harder for guys to drive dirty. You take a run at someone and miss on a dry slick track you spin yourself out or run off the track. My favorite types would be dry slick with a little tack left very high and very low. This gives 2 lanes and makes for great racing. Or just a mix of dry and tacky spots entering the turn and comming off. You need a track that a driver needs to hit certain spots to get the fastest laps.

 

As for Lanny's comment. It seems so strange that to find a good promoter they can only excell at 1 of the 2 things needed. Track set up for racers or a good business head. Lanny has a good business head.

I think if it wasn't for the fans and family that enjoy watching me race I would never set foot on the SFS until there was a change in promoter and staff.

Lanny and Staff,

You might want to thank racers, racers family, and the fans. If it wasn't for them you wouldn't have 5 cars a night show up to race due to the way you run the show, set up the track, and treat people.

i agree the heavy stuff is terrible and the dry stuff is follow the leader i like what tilly said dry but tack left high and low������������� dusty

Anyone can be fast on a heavy track ....lets see flat on the floor and here in a few seconds turn left and do it all over again !All of the big money shows all over the united states strive to prepare a good dry slick track with a cushion and some rubber laid down on the bottom ....That makes for some great racin ....This heavy stuff is hard on the engine chassis and when the track is so fast and rough like that its  also hard on the pocket book .....

Like tilly said when its dry it brings the true talent out in the drivers  not how much horsepower he has , any good driver can adapt to anyracing surface but it's startin to get a little out of hand with the water ....look at all the blown engines and flipped cars friday night ...that stuff does'nt happen when its dry ...

Just my opinion ....but hey I love the dry slicks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my issue with sfs and a dry slick is that its not built for it. put some more banking in it and u will get more than one groove. the lack of banking is the reason for one line racing on the dry slick. ive been to a couple of different tracks that run dry slick and its great racing. but they have more banking. dry slick is great racing when done at the right track

SFS can be a good track when it's dry. The problem is the teams get a dry track about once every two months. It's hard to develop a setup for the dry when you only get to race on one, once every 2 months. If we raced week in and week out on a dry track you would see the racing get better as teams developed setups. That's why when we had the extreme nationals many of the local drivers struggled to compete. But when you look at Enid where the race weekly on a dry track; when the usmts was there, there were several locals that were able to make the field. It is definitely easier on the equipment to race on a dry slick race track and levels the playing field.

But what we are really getting at here is Lanny wants a heavy track because it's the fans that he makes the money off of. Cars flipping and wrecking are what get a lot of people in the seats, and that's what lanny wants money. Same reason the caution is slow to fly lots of times got to hurry the show along so he can get out of town with the loot. Maybe with the new radios getting cars lined up will speed up the show enough that we are able to get a caution when a car is stalled on the track. Oh and these radios he is selling for $130 and not making a dollar off of, I hear a rumor that Sooner Motor Sports has them for sale for something like $100. Its like Tillison said maybe lanny should thank the competitors that put the show on and treat them more fairly, cause after all that's why the fans are there to see the cars race; not Lanny, Slugo, and Jarvis racing there golf carts.

thats a great question. There have been times I hated----absolutely hated dry race tracks. But now I notice when it goes really dry it is the modifieds that put on the best show. But whereas the speed can be appreciated on heavy race tracks........there doesn't see to be an awful lot of passing. In the end I'd have to say I do like the "non-existent" middle..........I really like tracks that have both a good high and low groove.......so that there is attempted passes and even slide jobs all over the track. Considering before USA Mods started racing at SFS I had hardly really seen em.........after seeing them the last few years I see where they provide great racing......for the most part......on almost any track surface. So whereas I am a sprint car fanatic.......I've grown to appreciate modified racing and the true quality of it. Thats why when faced with the decision Saturday of I-44 or Enid.........I went to Enid. It's why I sometimes hit up big mod shows (when there's a lack of a GOOD sprint race) in Clinton, or TMS, or wherever. I personally think mods are by FAR the best stock car racing to be found. And as far as racing surfaces.........I really don't care if it is dry or tacky as long as it is a surface that promotes passing (good racing).

I agree the track is almost always too wet, I really like racing at SFS because I like the track but the inside is always greasy and Its hard to drive when your constantly grabbing tear-offs because you cant see.

Also I'm glad that no-one hit Randy Timms when he spun in the B main with his door facing traffic, when a modified spins they are locked in gear and the alcohol wont let the car start immediately.

But Ive had a lot of fun racing so far this year other than tearing up a lot of neat stuff, also the people Ive met racing have been the best.

Don't worry about gettin a dry-slick track,everybody. Pretty soon all this cool rainy weather will be over,it will be in the 90's still come A-feature times and the keys to the water truck will disappear. In a month we'll all be beggin for rain again

I agree with MJM. I'm not sure we could have expected anything other than what we got last Friday. The ground is water-logged everywhere. I hate it when it dries off completely. When it gets to the point that a skilled driver can go up and run the rim while still carrying speed, that's when I like it the best.
