USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series

HANFORD’S JIM EVETT MEMORIAL THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

SANTA MARIA, CA – JULY 13, 2011... When the USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Car Series take to Hanford’s Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway this Saturday night, fans are in for a treat. The popular "Jim Evett Memorial" will showcase the make-up semi-main and feature from the March 18th rainout, a complete show, plus IMCA Stock Cars and Mini Stocks. The Pit Gates will open at 1:00pm, Spectator Gates at 5:00pm, Time Trials at 6:00pm, with Racing scheduled for 6:30pm.

Heading into Saturday’s event, Ryan Bernal of Hollister leads the championship point chase. Driving the Danny Olmstead owned #11D S&S Automotive / Dorso's Automotive Maxim, Bernal has two heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and led fifty-one laps of main event competition. The former Wingless Spec Sprint Champion will be looking for his first series victory on Saturday.

Richard VanderWeerd of Visalia trails Bernal by thirty-one points. Piloting Ron VanderWeerd’s #10 Maxim backed by VanderWeerd Construction and Battery Worx, Richard has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, three heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and has led one main event lap. VanderWeerd will be one of the favorites on Saturday.

Richard's twin brother Jace is currently third in the point standings. Driving Ron VanderWeerd’s #88 Maxim sponsored by VanderWeerd Construction and Battery Worx, Jace won at Santa Maria on April 9th. In addition, the young driver has five top-10 finishes and led fourteen main event laps in the 2011 campaign. Jace will be looking to add Saturday’s Evett Memorial to his resume.

Bud Kaeding of Campbell is the hottest driver on the circuit. Driving Junior Bowman's #29 Buster & Ziggy Enterprises / Kaeding Performance Maxim, Bud has four main event wins on the season. Now fourth in points, the 3-time USAC Silver Crown Champion also has one Sander Engineering Fast Time Award, two heat race victories, and has led seventy-seven laps of feature competition. Look for Kaeding to run up front at Hanford.

"Wide Open" Wes Gutierrez of San Martin is fifth in the point chase. Driving the WG Motorsports owned #007 DRC backed by Competition Suspension Inc. and ButlerBuilt, Gutierrez has three heat race victories and four top-10 finishes to his credit. The hard charging driver will be looking to visit Hanford’s victory circle on Saturday.

Among the other top contenders expected to be in action are Gardena's Greg Alexander, Tipton's "Hollywood" Danny Faria Jr., Justyne Hamblin of Hanford, Clovis' Peter Murphy, Dennis Howell of Rancho Palos Verdes, and Fresno's T.J. Smith. In addition, Bakersfield's Rusty Carlile, Hanford's Jonathan Logan, Kerman's Davey Pombo, and "Showtime" Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria should be on hand to battle for the victory.

Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway is located on the Kings County Fairgrounds at 801 S. 10th Avenue in Hanford, California. Reserved Grandstand tickets are $12.
