I dug around and found one of several photos I've got from the old track at NE 23rd and Eastern. That was the "road course" track, uphill and down dale, with a "seasonal" lake in the middle. It was called both O'Hara Speedway or Devil's Bowl at one time or another. The one near what is now Wiley Post was Sportsman's Park. Anyway, the photo is what was called a "Junk Car." Dangerous doesn't even start to describe these things, but as far as I can determine, they only killed one driver out there. Anybody want to start a "what's wrong with this race car" list? Guess I could start with the football helmet on the driver, with what looks like maybe a dentist's mirror mounted on it for rearview. Oh, yeah, sign me up for some of that.

Believe this is 1946. They ran junk cars before the war out near Wiley Post, as early as 1936 or so, then moved to 23rd and Eastern just before the war and ran until spring of '42. They resumed in April of '46 and ran one place or another until around 1950. The last tracks were at SW 13th and Eastern and NW 63rd and May.
