SANTA MARIA, CA – MAY 24, 2011… This Saturday, May 28th, the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series will return to Perris Auto Speedway for the annual "Salute To Indy." Joining the traditional 410 cubic-inch powered machines will be the California Lightning Sprints, Senior Sprints, and WRA Vintage Cars. The spectator gates will open at 5:00pm, with racing at "America's Premier Dirt Track" to begin at 7:00pm.
As listed in previous releases and schedules, the TBA event scheduled for this Sunday, May 29th, at Victorville Raceway Park WILL NOT be held.
Heading into Saturday's show, Mike Spencer of Temecula leads the point chase. Driving Ron Chaffin's famed #50 Madera Produce / Circle C Marketing Maxim, Spencer won the first three main events of the season. On May 7th at Hanford, the 3-time defending champion earned the Sander Engineering Fast Time Award and finished eighteenth after having problems in the feature. Mike will be looking to rebound this Saturday with a Perris victory.
Riverside's "Dynamite" David Cardey is second in the point standings. Piloting his own #59 Circle Track Performance / Pick's Racing Engines Viper, Cardey won Hanford's DJ Safety Heat Race #3 and claimed eighth in the feature. The former California Lightning Sprint Champion has enjoyed success at Perris and will have his sights set on the "Salute To Indy" win.
Sitting third in the points is Matt Mitchell of Yorba Linda. Driving J.W. Mitchell Motorsports' #37 Mancha Realtors / Sierra Springs Maxim, Mitchell was third in the Hanford feature after starting thirteenth. The USAC Western Midget Series graduate won last year's Fair Race at Perris and will be looking to add the "Salute To Indy" to his resume.
"The Bullet" Blake Miller of Yorba Linda is currently fourth in the point chase. Piloting Mark Priestley's #7 Roy Miller Freightlines / Sander Engineering Maxim, Miller finished eleventh at Hanford after an early race tangle with another car sent him to the rear of the field. The 2006 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year will be one of the favorites to watch on Saturday.
Visalia's Greg Bragg is fifth in the point standings. Driving Tom and Laurie Sertich's #92 Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror / Pacific Business Machine Buckley, Bragg led the first two laps at Hanford before finishing ninth. The 3-Time California Lightning Sprint Champion scored a popular win at Perris last season and would like add another victory for the Moose Racing Team.
