PRESS RELEASE 8.22.10
For immediate release By Bob Burbach
MRP family honors Shepherd’s memory by turning the lights back on. 5-division point race Sept 18th.
Marysville – Saturday night, 31 members of the management, staff, fire and safety officials and other members of the MRP family voted to resume racing. It was the unanimous decision of the group, that included Merle Shepherd’s widow, that Shepherd would not want his death, while doing something he loved, cause racing to stop. Shepherd was associated with the raceway since the early ‘90s. The casual forum allowed for opinions and suggestions to be discussed openly as to how, when or if the track should reopen.
It has been decided that 2 MRP Championship Point Races will be scheduled to conclude the season in advance of the Championship Banquet. The first will be Saturday night September 18th. The 2nd event, and the concluding point race for 2010 will be Saturday night October 9th. All 5 of MRP’s primary divisions will be featured. The MRP Winged Sprint Cars, the Performance Auto Supply Wingless Sprint Cars, the MRP Super Stocks and Mini Stocks and the Pro 4 Sprint Cars will be featured in both shows. These events will bring to a close the MRP point season and insure a continuation of championship point racing events into MRP’s 43rd consecutive season next year in our 5 primary classes.
The scheduled Sherm Toller Open shows for both sprint car classes and stock cars will be postponed and will be rescheduled to kick off the 2011 racing season at MRP.
Sept 18th the pit gate opens at 3PM. The spectator gates will open at 5 PM with Hot Laps at 6 PM. IMPORTANT: The first race will start after hot laps at about 6:30.
