QUINCY, CA (6-14-10) - The Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series is bound to one of the most scenic tracks in Northern California this weekend, the American Valley Speedway on the Plumas County Fairgrounds in Quincy. The event is the fifth round of the traveling Civil War Sprint Car Series.
Race fans will have their one and only chance this season to witness California's best 360 sprint car drivers on the lightning fast 3/8 mile oval that sits amidst a breathtaking back drop of the scenic Plumas Valley. This is the one time the Civil War Series visits the American Valley Speedway on the annual series tour.
Although the actual race doesn't take place until Saturday, drivers will have the opportunity to test and tune for the event one night prior to the event as open practice will take place on Friday night between the mini stock events that will be taking place. Practice is $20 for participants and will include a free barbecue for participants during the evening presented annually by Mike Monahan and Superior Hydraulics.
"Everyone who's in the pits on Friday night is in the bbq," said track promoter Curt Nieman. "We're hoping for a good car count and great show for the fans up here and we want to make it a great time for the racers."
Entering Saturday's event, Andy Forsberg of Auburn leads the Civil War Series point standings. The four time series champion is a one time winner this year and sits 16-points ahead of former two time champion Mike Henry of Sacramento. Season opening winner Herman Klein of Sacramento is currently tied with Henry for the second position.
Sitting fourth in the standings is Mason Moore of Princeton. Sean Becker the defending two time Civil War Champion currently rounds out the top five, 32-points out of the lead. Justin Sanders, Kenny Allen, Bradley Terrell, Colby Wiesz and Steven Tiner all round out the top ten in this competitive series.
So far in 2010, four different drivers have won Civil War feature events in the four races that have taken place. No driver has claimed multiple heat race wins as of yet and three different drivers have earned the fast time position.
The current statistics clearly illustrate just how competitive this traveling series continues to be. The Civil War Series is a campaign designed to allow drivers to compete in a traveling series that offers over $240,000 throughout the year. Each regular Civil War Series event pays $2000 to the winner and $300 to start the 30-lap feature. Nearly $25,000 is awarded in year end championship funds in addition to the single event earnings.
The pit gate will open at 3 p.m. on both days at American Valley Speedway with racing starting at 7 p.m. The grandstands will be open at 5 p.m. Adult tickets will be $18, juniors will be $17, kids are $10 and five and under will be admitted for free.
