Official UMSS Press Release:
UMSS Adds August 14 show at Arlington Raceway
Stillwater, MN
By: Greg Parent (6-2-10)
With the weather claiming three early season races, the Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) is pleased to announce the addition of another race at the Arlington Raceway on Saturday August 14. Arlington Raceway promoter Bob Allen was pleased with the turnout for the first IMCA-UMSS Challenge race at the track on May 29, so an additional event has been added to the schedule in order to match up with the UMSS show slated for the Kopellah Speedway on Friday August 13. Stated UMSS President Ron Bernhagen, "These IMCA-UMSS Challenge races give the drivers and fans something extra to look forward to on race nights, so I am pleased we will be able to return for what will be the third of four appearances scheduled for the big, fast Arlington track."
Other UMSS events previously on the schedule for the Arlington Raceway include a July 31 appearance and a September 25 show. In addition to the four Arlington UMSS-IMCA combination shows, the UMSS will also be racing with the IMCA sprints four nights at the Elko Dirt Nationals in July. Without the affiliation between IMCA and the UMSS announced this past winter, these events likely would not have been possible. Both groups are working together the best they can to help promote and grow area sprint car racing. With a solid turnout during the recent Memorial Day weekend events of 24 and 21 cars at Kopellah and Arlington respectively, it appears the support from the drivers is increasing. The future looks bright for both the IMCA and UMSS in and around the Twin City metropolitan area with plans to hopefully move out just a little bit further in 2011 for maybe one or two additional shows.
The UMSS is a value-based sprint car organization bringing open wheel racing back to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota by establishing reasonable rules for the participant, an economical purse structure for the race tracks, and an affordable race ticket and fan-friendly program for the race fan.
