The Wright Driver Wins
Rickey Wright flew a round the 1/3 mile dirt track at Chowtown Speedway Saturday night in his 360 winged sprint car. In restart after restart Eric "Hot Rod" Humphries chased Wright but could not catch him, Humphries had to settle for second place for the main event while Wright took home the $1,500 paycheck. Garret Ishii and Albert Pombo battled for third and fourth with Ishii winning the fight and taking third. Shawn Wright finished fifth completing the top five in the winged 360 sprint cars.
Mike Shepherd broke a tie rod end in his heat race keeping him out of the trophy dash, that was the bad news for him. The bad news for the rest of the Super Stock competitors was that the fan hand picked by announcer Davey Boy, drew the "FULL" invert card from the stack of cards. This put Shepherd on the pole for the yellow flag marred Super Stock main event. Roy Hart Jr. attacked Shepherd on every restart but was not able to get by so he took second to Shepherd. Michael Shearer, Steven Hannah, and Mike Calhoun made up the top five.
Shannon Marlow drove one of the best races a fan will ever see for nineteen laps in the Hobby Stock race, the only problem it was a twenty lap race and Marlow caught a lapped car on the final lap of the race. Point leader Ryan Larimer charged through the pack and drove to the back bumper of Marlow about the same time she caught the lapped car, and with the crowd standing on their feet, or the seat back in front of them Larimer passed Marlow for the win. Jarod Fast, Shane Hauseman and Shannon Porter made up the balance of the top five.
The winged warriors from the past called the Sportmans put on a great night of hard charging race action throughout the night. They had four different races, two heats a dash and a main, and each was won by a different driver. Tim Prothro and Mike Henault won the heats, Mike Hausmann won the dash and Michael Shearer won the main event. Duane Fast, Mike Hausmann, Tim Prothro, and Mark Key, took second through fifth in the main event.
2009 Track Champion Kathy Evans found her way back to victory lane in the 4-Banger Class. Kodie Dean was second, Mike Pickering raced hard for third, Jimmy Wood and Marisa Odgers fought off Ben Cooley, Richard Scott, and Philip Gaitan for fourth and fifth.
This week Chowtown is closed for the Vukovich Classic Super Modified race at Madera Speedway. Chowchillas Sportsman drivers are part of the action at Madera as they will race in an exhibition race just before the Main Event of the Supers, and just after the Main Event of the BCRA Midgets!
