Alright photographers....I need some advice. I currently have a Canon 10D and am thinking about upgrading to a Canon 30D. Do I keep my current 10D and buy the good Canon lense EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM or upgrade to a 30d and buy a lesser zoom lense like the Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di? I can't afford to upgrade to the 30D or the 5D and get the top notch lense. Also, Sigma makes a lense coparable to the Canon f/2.8 that is the APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG HSM. that looks good for about 1/2 the money. I can't switch to Nikon as I have been using Canon way to long and am way to familiar with that brand.
Is the lense more important or a high quality camera. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
IB

Buy the better lens...and stick with canon on the lens also...I use Nikon stuff and there top end lens seem to work the best when compaired to sigmas and tamrons...

Ibie, careful when you're buying used lenses. They can be very fuzzy!

Buy the best lens you can afford the camera body is just a body. As long as there is no light leaks all it does is hold the lens. GOOD LUCK

I use Nikon gear so am not real familiar with the Canon you are using. However, I'd agree with Travis and buy the Canon lens.
I have some Sigma and Tamron lenses and they are also very good and not as high in cost as the Nikon "equivilant". Problem is, they are not equivilant. Nikon is better. The glass is a higher quality. The lens is faster and sharper than nay Sigma I have.
We currently have the D100, D70, D200 and D2X bodies. The lenses I use the most are the 70-200 VR 2.8 and the 17-55 VR 2.8. I would rather use these lenses on the D200 than a Sigma on the D2X. That is about what your question was.
I wouldn't worry about switching from Canon. Just upgrade when you can afford to. Most of the shooters at the NASCAR, IRL and major stick and ball sports use Canon gear. But that stuff is top of the line where I believe canon has a slight edge at the current time.

IB - The problem with the 10D is it is yesterdays technology. The autofocus is slow in daylight and non-existant at night compared with the new bodies, especially when shooting high speed objects. Its great to have the $2500 Canon lens but if it won't focus fast enough at night to catch the action you might as well have the Sigma and use manual focus. I did for years and still do on occasion. However if you can get a good deal on a used lens and still upgrade the body you will love that Canon lens.
