Statler brings home sixth place finish with GSC in Placerville

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA - March 25, 2007... Coming off a tough weekend in Hanford, San Jose’s Jason Statler looked to rebound in Placerville and he did just that by guiding the Tom Rolfe Trucking, DF Rios Construction, Pheasant Run Shopping Center No. 10 to a sixth place finish.

Jason started the race in tenth and with the track being one lane had to stay out of trouble and pick his spots wisely. The 2004 King of California drove a controlled, aggressive race to finish sixth and it helped him make up some points after losing a bit of ground last weekend.

"The Big Guy" began the night by qualifying 10th quick with a lap of 11.084 in the Tom Rolfe Trucking Special and then finished a strong second in his heat race to rack up four points towards the championship.

The Golden State Challenge Series point standings after Round #5 in Placerville show Jason sitting in fifth place, 33 back of leader Sean Becker.

Jason and the Tom Rolfe Trucking No. 10 team will compete in two night’s of action this coming weekend at a pair of different facilities. On Friday night Jason will begin the bid for his first career Silver Dollar Speedway track championship, as they compete in Silver Dollar Speedway Points Race #1. Jason has competed in a number of point race shows at Chico in recent years but has never had the opportunity to compete for the track championship, which he will do this season. Look for the Tom Rolfe Trucking, DF Rios Construction, Pheasant Run Shopping Center machine to be a major contender for the track title this season.

On Saturday the team will make the long haul south to the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway for Golden State Challenge Series Round #6. The Thunderbowl has been a thorn in Jason’s side in the past, but he has gotten the hang of the 1/3 mile clay oval in recent years. He won his very first race at the Thunderbowl in the 2005 Chris Faria Memorial and last season finished sixth or better in all but one of the GSC events held at the track.
