Gurney Sweeps Silver Cup Weekend

CHICO, Calif., March 25, 2007 – Chuck Gurney Jr. dominated the weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway, capturing both Silver Cup 360 Sprints events. In both wins, he started from the pole and led every lap for the WB Motorsports team.

“I had an awesome weekend,” Gurney said. “This was the first time I won two sprint car races in the same weekend. I won three races in a row in 2005, but this was my first weekend sweep. I’m thrilled to finally get the monkey off my back at Chico, and now I’ll look forward to running this track.”

Gurney also swept the 360 Sprints and Wingless Sprints dash races Saturday night for the cars owned by Walt Branco and Brian Sperry, respectively. While Gurney had the 360 field covered in his Hurricane/Bailey Bros car sponsored by Santamauro Race Products and BMRS, he finished third in the Wingless Sprints feature after starting on the pole and leading early.

“I really wanted to win the Wingless feature for Sperry Racing,” said Gurney. “Darrell Hanestad passed me when I slipped up in one corner and then I lost another spot when I drove off the racetrack trying to regain the lead.”

Gurney returns to the cockpit for Team Gurney Racing in the USAC National Midget Series event April 6-7 at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas.

“I enjoy going back to California to run the Sprint cars, but USAC Midgets are my main focus this season,” Gurney said. “We are a new team, but we have what it takes to be competitive and win races.”

Chuck Gurney Jr. is a third generation driver with more than 200 career wins, including three national quarter-midget championships. Team Gurney Racing is sponsored by Indy Performance Composites, ClubSport, Blueline Company, Row Printing, Red Line Synthetic Oil, Velocity Sports Performance, BMRS, D&E Printing, Ultra Shield Race Products, Impact Racing Products and Fontana Automotive.
