why only 15 sprinters if this race was open to 360's, 305's. AND 410's? They should be happy some drivers traveled many miles for that race........or they wouldn't even have had 10. What was the deal with this race?

I love sprint cars, but race them on dirt not pavement.

You have to hand it to ole' P-Dub, he has quite a sales pitch when hyping up his organization. And granted he has some talented drivers that continue to faithfully run his shows. But after a while his in your face type of hype about the "fire-breathing" 700 horsepower sprint car action tends to wear thin. Though not all his fault, his organization seems to present mere hotlap sessions, with an occassional pass(of a lapped car(s)) and the occassional crash. Kenny Adams his perenial star won by a half a lap over second place, and it only took him 3/4 of a lap to gain the lead and never look back. The surgence of the ASCS in his own backyard I'm sure has ole' P-Dub thinking.

Maybe everyone is just tired of the same scenerio with the USCS, its the "Kenny and Terry Show." Not much racing, but a whole lot of chasing. Take a look at the videos of some of there races that are available to view on there website. They back up my point.

How many cars ever show up for a sprint car race on pavement?  Just asking..  It least he tries to do something different.  How many sprint cars are there in GA anyway?  I really don't know.

It won't be the Kenny and Terry show at Malden Mo this weekend.  I don't believe either one won any of the races there last year.  There will be several MO cars in the hunt and probably some Memphis cars as well.

Pete seems to take a beating on some of the message boards and I'm not sure why.  Maybe it's just the fact that people with a problem are normally the only ones to post.  I've only been involved in 360 racing 1 year.  But in 10 years of racing, Pete is still the only promoter to ever call our house to tell us about a race and ask if we were interested.  Not once but several times.  We're talking about a first year driver no one even knows.  How many promoters actually take time to do that today?  He's the only promoter I see constantly posting on message boards to promote races.  How can any of that be bad for racers?  There's not too many USCS races in our immediate area and we don't get to travel very far but we've never been disappointed in any we've attended.  His races pay better than any local 360 series in our area.  We've never had any problems at his races and he has always had time to say hello and ask what we've been doing.  He might be a little overzealous on advertising "700 hp outlaw sprint cars", but personally we don't have anything bad to say.  In fact, our experience has been nothing but positive.  I wish he had more races in Missouri.

You make some very good points in your post Mo. Granted this weekend it probably won't be a Kenny and Terry show at Malden this weekend, maybe at the so-called "NATIONAL" events the dynamic duo will show up.

I think your point about Pete calling you about a race is admirable for a promoter to do,true many don't take the time to do so that I know of. It just tends to rub me the wrong way for a promoter to hype an organization that produces a mediocure product at best. For the casual fan it may be nothing to pay fifteen or twenty dollars at the gate to see twelve to fifteen sprint cars run. The hard-core fan tends to tire of listening to they hype, attending a show and then feeling duped because it was so not worth it.

I expect the duo to be there.  They were last year.  They didn't outclass the field at all.  I can't speak for other parts of the country but there's always been a good competitive car count at Malden.

I'm curious as to your opinion of what a good promoter SHOULD do.  Keep quiet?  Do nothing?  Downplay the drivers and cars coming to his races?  It seems to me Pete is doing everything he can to get cars and fans to his races.  I'm not sure what else a promoter should be doing.

Pete Walton has brought sprint car racing to an area where it hasn't been (the deep south) with a series that has a good mix of veterans and talanted young racers. He seems to do everything he can to entice both racers and fans to come to his events. So what if he had fifteen or so cars at a pavement race! That's probably out of his control...how much winged sprint car pavement racing is there? How many pavement races get more?

I don't understand the condemnation for "over-hyping" sprint car racing in his area. I wish we had such passion from some promotors who have been blessed with more to sell on a bigger stage around the country.

I applaud Pete for his efforts to build sprint car racing in his area with a variety of racing venues.

Well it seems like pavement sprint car racing has gotten tougher lately. Even the guys up North are having trouble drawing cars like in past years. TBARA in Florida where there are a ton of pavement sprint cars had 19 cars this past Friday night at Ocala and 18 this past Saturday night at Columbia Motorsports Park. Our event will be much better with 2 races at Five Flags and Mobile.

To answer someone's question there are only 7 sprint cars in Georgia. Maybe 2 cars in Central or North Alabama. There is only one sprint car in all of East Tennessee. Only one sprint car driver out of the seven in Georgia runs pavement at present. Most teams are low budget and race a very limited amount of times per season.

There have been times when we had a dozen or so cars in the Atlanta area with seven or eight of them running pavement. People come and people go. Some retire, some run out of money, some just never develop the talent to compete with the talent that runs at the top and they give up it happens everywhere. If you're from the Midwest area then you really don't understand the fan base, effect of NASCAR, or the fan mentallity that we have in the South.

You can race a late model for $5000 to $20,000 to win within the same area we drive to around here on any weekend. You can race a late model at any track in the Southeast on a Friday or Saturday night. In all honesty why would you want to race a sprint car in the Southeast unless you dearly love it?

Heck you even have to love this job to even run over 300 races in 10 years. Traveled thousands and thousands of miles. Eat lots of lousy food and the pay ain't too good either. You gotta love it!

Even though (you say not) we have had some great races the majority of the time and yeah a few dogs too like everyone else.

Hey David and Rush66J how about posting your latest and most outstanding sprint car promotional accomplishments on here for all of us less accomplished to see. It would be interesting to us.

No one can ever doubt your passion for the sprint car racing Pete, and its nice to see that you have a strong belief in what you do. We all are entitled to an opinion, and that is what I have expressed here in the statements I have made. Mind you, we are all not going to always see things the same ,and may never come to a common understanding, ie we agree to disagree.

I for one am thankful for what 'ol P-Dub has done. Living in the deep south, getting to see "700-HORSEPOWER FUEL INJECTED FIRE BREATHING" Sprint cars ain't such a bad deal. Many of the average stock car fans (I'll leave that up to your imagination) don't have a clue about Sprint Car racing so a little hype goes a long way. For the readers of this message board I know it sounds over the top but remember that the press releases you see here are aimed at the local media near race locations. A little show-biz lets the people know this is something a cut above what they've been accustomed to. I've heard several people along the Gulf Coast refer to the cars as Skeeters which was is what the Supermodifieds were called back in the '60s when they were the premier class. They need a little educatin' shall we say.

well I'll be damned. A promoter that can actually respond to criticism from fans. Man if I had a vote for promoter of the year........Pete Walton would have it. Screw the car counts. I think hell just froze over. Best of luck to his series down in the southeast.

If our local track promoter (at OKC) would respond to even half his criticism from fans on message boards David Smith Jr.'s tidbits would definitely be the most COLORFUL forum on the internet. With that being said, if we had a promoter here in OKC that treated the drivers with some respect (instead of running them out) OKC might have one of the best local shows in the nation. But I'm sure OKC isn't the only track with that problem.

I agree on most points OKCfan, but 70 sprints plus and two other classes of racing isn't too shabby of a weekly show.
