As soon as I saw that they were going to race on the dirt track the same weekend as I would be there racing the Busch and Nextel Cup cars I immediately got on the phone to make sure I had a ride lined up and figure out what it was going to take to go over and play," Yeley said.
The Las Vegas Dirt Classic will feature two complete programs of racing for the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series and the Western Allstars in conjunction with the annual NASCAR Weekend at LVMS.Yeley is scheduled to compete in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series portion of the event."I ran there (LVMS' dirt track) in 1998 and 1999 in a Sprint Car," continued Yeley. "Tony Smiley of Phoenix is helping me out. He used to build the chassis that I ran back in the late 90s. I ran for him probably a dozen times throughout my career. He built me a brand new race car and will give me an opportunity to go run at different times later this year at other places, but Las Vegas will be the first."Yeley, son of midget champion "Cactus" Jack Yeley, began his racing career at age 10. By the time he was 16, Yeley became the youngest driver ever to earn his USAC license. Yeley went on to win the "Triple Crown" by clinching the Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown championships in a single season. Now this is the kind of driver I like. He could fit in any era. Diverse ability, all he needs is a steering wheel and a gas pedal.

It's been a long time since Tony's driven a non-wing 410 sprinter, anyone remember when? I sure can't.

The race is called "The Ultimate Challenge" (http://www.hoseheads.com/frontrow.html) and is run in Oskaloosa, IA on Tuesday night before the Knoxville Nationals start.

He was at Osky a couple years back. I was there.

Wait a minute,Tony made his name driving non-wing stuff with USAC, He won the triple crown!!! He just stayed out because they are a lot more dangerous than those other sprint cars and some NASCAR owners are not real thrilled when one of there drivers get in one, If fact they have forbidden some drivers to get in one at all. I'm definitely from the old school and so is Tony. So calm down.

What have you been smokin'! Wouldn't make the feature? Would you bet money on that? Even though I'm not a big "smoke" fan, I would gladly take that bet, in fact, I would ante it up to say that not only would he qualify, he would finish the feature in the top 10! Tony is one of the most versatile and gifted drivers of our time! (his accomplishments attest to that) He is definately a throwback to the A.J.-Mario times, when racers drove anything, anywhere at anytime!
