Tarlton & Son, Inc. Sprint Cars Have Stellar Weekend

By Gary Costa

Watsonville, CA - Tulare, CA - (June 26-27, 2009) – Tommy Tarlton, Peter Murphy and Michael Faccinto all turned in strong performances over the busy racing weekend in the No. 21 Tarlton & Son, Inc. Sprint Cars.

Friday night at Ocean Speedway, crew chief Paul Baines had the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino Shark powered Maxim tuned to perfection en route to his second victory in GLR Investments 360 Sprint Car competition.

Tarlton started his successful night qualifying in the second spot turning 11.963 he then went onto finish third in his eight lap heat race, and powered his way through the pack, blasting through lapped traffic to capture his fourth win of the season.

The following day at Tulare, the race would be dubbed "Oral E. Micham Inc. Night at the Races" for Tarlton Motorsports.

Tarlton would compete with the Golden State Challenge Series Sprint Cars at the Tulare Thunderbowl. Tarlton qualified ninth out of the 23 car field, but the team began to get Tarlton dialed in as he finished second in his heat race and third in the dash. In the main event, Tarlton would drift back just a bit, but the car began working and he put himself in the second position. Tarlton had his sights set on race winner Brent Kaeding, but came up just shy of posting his second main event of the weekend.

"What a weekend! We ran strong in both races, but came up short in this one," a jubilant Tarlton said. "I would have loved to win this one for Oral E. Micham Inc. It's okay; we'll take it and move on. I'm having so much fun every time that I hit the racetrack."

Peter Murphy and Michael Faccinto would compete in the Bandit Non-Winged Sprint Car portion of the event. Murphy would go onto win his heat race and finish third in the main event, while Michael finished second in his heat race and brought home a sixth place finish to top off a great weekend of racing for Tarlton Motorsports.

Murphy also was the pilot of the Dennis and Theresa Roth 83jr competing with the GSC. It would be his first time at the helm of the potent mount. Murphy qualified in the 15th spot and finished in fifth in his heat. Murphy would quickly rebound from his 15th starting spot as he was immediately on the move in the Roth Motorsports No. 83jr, working his way through the field where he would eventually finish fifth.

"The track was tricky out there, but I was still having a great time," Murphy said. "I had a blast driving in both divisions. I want to thank Tom Tarlton and Dennis Roth both, for giving me great cars. It was hot out there, but thankfully I drank a lot of fluids during the week, so I didn't fall out of the seat."

Tommy Tarlton will be ready for battle July 11 as the GSC Sprint Cars invade Santa Maria Speedway. Peter Murphy will be back at it again at Santa Maria Speedway for more West Coast 360 Sprint Car action.
