2009 has been very challenging for Billy Strange and the Strange Motorsports team. After destroying the car in a heat race "incident" at the Memorial Day Weekend Civil War show at Silver Dollar Speedway, the team regrouped and put together a new car just in time for Placerville Speedway on June 16th. Billy started on the front row of his heat and proceeded to drive away from the field. By lap six he had put almost a full straight-away lead on second place.....when a water hose let go. By not finishing the heat, Billy Strange started in the last row and in one lap was up to 15th when the red came out. A few more laps under green and he noticed the engine was over-heating so he pulled off. It was later determined the radiator had a problem. With a new radiator in the car, the team traveled to Marysville Raceway Park for a point show on June 20th. Billy laid a quick lap down in qualifying to place him 6th in the 23 car field. Starting 5th in the heat, Billy made some quick moves to put him into 3rd spot where he stayed. A zero inversion meant Billy Strange started in the sixth position. He fell back to 9th and then methodically worked his way up to 5th. On lap 10 he was working on fourth place when he was collected in a wreck in turns three and four. With very minor damage Billy started at the back of the field (16th) and started a charge. He passed eight cars in eight laps by going where no one else was, on the outside. A yellow came out with two to go and on the restart Billy charged into the first turn trying to take 7th away on the inside and spun to miss another car. He stayed in the gas, did a 360 and only lost two spots. Billy charged back and passed a car for 9th on the white flag lap coming off of turn two. He made up about four car lengths going into turn three on 8th place to pull along side coming for the checkerd. Just before the flag stand the two cars touched sending Billy Strange into a spin backwards across the line while doing a wheelie/360. Billy still finished in 9th and the whole team was very pleased with the run in the new car. Special thanks to ART and their new chassis as well as Kevin Sharrah Designs. Next race is July 4th.
