USAC/CRA non-wing Sprint Cars to invade Petaluma Speedway
Written by Harlan Osborne

The Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will make the first appearance at Petaluma Speedway this Saturday night with four of its top drivers contesting for the points lead. The 650 horsepower wingless 410s compete in a 22-race schedule at eight different dirt tracks in California, Azizona, and Nevada.

David Cardey (360), defending series champion Mike Spencer (338), Blake Miller (338), and Garrett Hansen (334), who led the final 25-laps to win last week’s event at Santa Maria Speedway, top the point standings with each driver notching one victory in a season in which no driver has repeated eight races. Additional 2009 feature winners include Darren Hagen, Cole Whitt, Rickie Gaunt, and Matt Mitchell.

The thundering wingless sprint cars will compete in qualifying, heats, and a 30-lap feature on Petaluma Speedway’s 3/8-mile tacky clay track that has yielded new qualifying track records to sprint cars in each of the past two weeks. Also on the program are the Capitol City Midgets.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Kyle Petty’s Victory Junction, a year-round camping facility in Randleman, North Carolina, that serves children with chronic medical needs or serious illnesses. It was opened in 2004 by Kyle and Pattie Petty in honor of their son Adam.

Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $20 for juniors and seniors. Pre-race tickets go on sale at the track at 12 noon. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
