Stephen Allard & 1m Racing to get season underway at Mini Gold Cup
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA - March 6, 2007... Former Silver Dollar Speedway track champion Stephen Allard will begin his 2007 racing campaign at this weekend’s Golden State Challenge Series season opening Mini Gold Cup in Chico. The 34 year old Chico native re-joined with veteran sprint car owner Skip Jones last July, and the pair are set for a full season of action together in ‘07.
1m Racing has made the switch to J & J Chassis this season and are set to contend for the Silver Dollar Speedway track championship. Last year Stephen ended up third in the final Silver Dollar Speedway point standings, just three digits behind Sean Becker for second.
This weekend’s Mini Gold Cup doesn’t count towards the track championship though, as it kicks off the season for the traveling Golden State Challenge King of California Series. The Mini Gold Cup has grown to be one of the most prestigious sprint car events on the west coast, and its $6,000 winning payday makes it the highest paying main event to win all season for GSC. Last year’s race was cancelled due to rain, so hopefully mother nature will give us a break this year as we appear to be for very competitive weekend of action. Stephen had a solid Mini Gold Cup in 2005 scoring finishes of third and seventh during the two night’s of racing.
Throughout the season Stephen and 1m Racing plan to run select events with the Golden State Challenge Series, mainly when time and finances permit. Stephen finished seventh last season in the final GSC point standings with one victory, which came at the Chris Faria Memorial in Tulare.
The 21st Mini Gold Cup gets underway this Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway and concludes on Saturday with the big 40 lap $6,000 to win main event. Tickets are $20 on Friday and $25 on Saturday.
The battle for the Silver Dollar Speedway track championship gets underway on Friday March 30. For news and updates on Stephen Allard and 1m Racing log onto http://www.stepehenallard.com
