Tyler Walker Gets "Warmed Up" For 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup

By Gary Costa

Cottage Grove, OR (June 15, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports Team were happy to be racing again with the Golden State Challenge Series again after suffering frustrating rainouts two weeks in a row. The most recent rainout occurred at Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR on June 13th. The team is making their way to Skagit Speedway in Washington, for the 38th edition of the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.

A Golden State Challenge Series stop graced the Cottage Grove Speedway grounds with Walker qualifying the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 fifth quick turning a 10.509. In heat race No. 2 action, Walker would go onto finish fourth. Walker would then start fifth in the dash, but a folded front end would relegate him to a seventh place finish.

In the 30-lap feature event, Walker would have his work cut out for him from his fourth row starting spot. When the green lights flashed on around the speedway Walker would begin his charge. With 20 furious non-stop laps in the books, Walker moved himself in the sixth spot. He then would flash under the checkered flag in Scott Chastain's JEI in the fifth position.

"It was just one of those nights. We didn't run like we wanted to at all," Walker said. "All we can do is move on. I'm really looking forward to the Dirt Cup though. Last year we ran real strong there and I'm excited about our chances."

You can catch Tyler Walker at the 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup starting this Thursday. Thursday night kicks off three intense days of Sprint Car action, June 18th-20th. Last year in preliminary action, Walker finished third on Thursday, and fifth on Friday. Saturday, he won the 6-lap "A scramble" and led the first 12 laps of the 40-lap event. He then got into a slugfest with eventual winner Jayme Barnes before settling for eighth.
