Winged Sprint Cars return for Fallen Racers Memorial Event. 9 points separate top 4. By Bob Burbach
Marysville CA - April 28, 2009 --- This Saturday night Paul and Kathy Hawes will host the 2nd Annual Fallen Racers Memorial as the mighty MRP Winged Sprint Cars make a return to Marysville Raceway Park after a 2-week hiatus.
When promoter Hawes took the reins of the facility one of the things he was determined to do was secure a place at MRP for all of the history from its past and remember who put it on the map. With 41 years of constant operation the number of people who participated as drivers and others numbers into the thousands. Each year at this time promoter Hawes will honor those who are no longer with us, but left an indelible impression on the history of this storied raceway. The Fallen Racers Memorial this Saturday will do just that.
The spectacular Winged Sprint Cars will headline the show that will also showcase the Pro 4 Sprint Cars and the MRP Mighty Mini Stocks. A really great extra added attraction will bring the BCRA Midget Lites back again. BCRA will be making its 3rd appearance in as many weeks. The racing has been awesome from this organization at MRP this year.
Speaking of awesome, how about the point race at the top of the MRP Winged Sprint Car heap. 4…count ‘em….4 former champions sit firmly at the top of the list. A complete program will be presented by the alcohol burning, fire breathing winged rockets. And how about this, only 9 points separate Jeremy Burt, Korey Lovell, Brent Dothage and the “Madman” Mike Monahan. Pull those belts tight, it should be a spectacular shoot out.
Contingency Connection support of the races at MRP continue to offer the sprint car feature event winner over $1100 in additional contingency awards in addition to the prize money offered.
Be at MRP Saturday when we honor our past and thrill to the drivers who are part of our present. Get here early for dinner at Alicia’s Restaurant, the home of the World’s Greatest Racetrack Cuisine. Have a refreshing drink to go with it, sit back and enjoy the west’s finest dirt track racing.
The pit gate opens at 3PM. Spectator gates open at 5PM. Hot laps start at 6 with qualifying and racing events scheduled immediately after hot laps.
