For sprint car fans in Texas and the surrounding area April 10, 2009 will be a date to circle on the calendar. The World of Outlaws (WoO) sprint car series will be making it's return to the state of Texas with a date at the Lone Star Speedway.
The high-banked, half-mile facility located in Kilgore, Texas last hosted racing in March of 2004 and had since been inactive until the track was purchased by Sam and Lisa Hafertepe in late 2008. Sam and Lisa are the proud parents of Sam Hafertepe Jr. who currently races with the WoO. The Hafertepe's have worked hard throughout the off season to restore and improve the facility and are anxious to show fans what Lone Star Speedway has to offer.
Fans interested in learning more about the facility or purchasing tickets in advance are encouraged to do so by visiting the track's website: www.lonestarspeedway.com

Thank you, Hafertepes.
Kilgore is about 100 miles East of Dallas and about 40 to 50 miles West of Shreveport (with Casinos) on Interstate 20. Pretty good barbecue at exit East of the track (I guess it's still there) "Bodacious". You can see the track from the interstate. In the middle of the piney woods and rolling hills.
The ticket prices are right. Good track. Has the "makin's" of a good show.

I've had this one marked on my calendar!
I've seen some really good tracks over the years... the racing wasn't the best I've seen at Lone Star but they will absolutely scream around that track. When the Gumout series visited a few years ago... didn't they lower the track record literally 2 seconds or so from the previous WoO visit years earlier?
The Hafertepe family is pure class and I have no doubt they'll carry that into the facility. Stop by to speak to Sam or his father when you're in the pits sometime... they're great to talk to.
Bodacious BBQ has several locations in East Texas. East Texas is a quiet haven of some pretty decent bbq... underpublicized and darn good.
High banks... high speed... I'm pumped!
