Who is Daron Clayton? What is his background? Where has he been running? At Creek County Speedway with the non-wing Bandits, he started on the rear of the feature and moved thru the field to fourth. He spent most of the race driving traffic with the left front wheel in the air. I have watched sprint car racing for over 50 years and I don't remember anyone ever driving that hard for an entire race. If High Vista Video taped that race, I am going to buy it.

Daron is one hell of a shoe. He had a profile done last year in Sprint and Midget magazine. Always exciting to watch, although this season hasn't seem to have gone the way he would have liked it, though. At least so far.

Yes Daron is from Sikeston, MO - and yes he is VERY exciting to watch. I've been a fan of his since seeing him clean house on a field of KISS cars at Haubstadt back in '05. That kid can flat gasserup and it is indeed usually "checkers or wreckers". Oddly - for being such a madman behind the wheel - he is very polite, reserved and well-mannered young man when speaking with him.

PLJ7236: Go to this link to see some great vids of Daron. It's his wife Shelly's youtube page.
http://www.youtube.com/user/shelbell150
The KISS race at Haubstadt from July 2007 was one of the greatest lead battles I've ever seen as DC and Jon Stanbrough went at it tooth and nail. Note: part 1 has no sound. Daron first ran winged sprints at Benton, Mo. in 2002 then really started running wingless in Indiana in 2004 and has been since.
OKCFan12: Hunter Schuerenberg is the other young wingless racer from Sikeston.

Petey, check your Daron Clayton stats on Open Wheel Times.com (I looked at knoxvilleraceway.com as well) !!
DC didn't assault the non-wing world until 2005. Up to that point, he was running local winged shows in Missouri and then ran w/ the All Stars/NCRA in 2003 and 2004 (ran the now defunct 1200 LB Nationals/Summer Classic at K'ville in 2003 and 2004).
His excitability factor increased ten-fold when he took off the top (from what I've seen - didn't see him run at Benton in the early years).
Jarrod Hull is also from Sikeston, MO...

Rustin: He ran some wingless shows at Gas City and Paragon in 04 and his first wingless win was the Labor Day race at Haubstadt that year. He showed up at the Sprint Bandit/USAC race at Memphis that year as well to my delight. Didn't make the main but he was fun to watch. I remember him running at K'Ville that year too. I should take back what I said about him first racing a sprinter. He ran at Benton in 01 but I didn't see him race until the next year.

Right... dabbled wingless in 2004, then full-time in 2005. Have you ever heard from him why he switched from winged to non-winged??

Daron Clayton is the man. The show he put on at perris at the oval natinals on thursday was awesome to say the least. The "modern day cowboy" came from the rear and went around the leaders who were already running the high groove, freaking amazing!!!! I am forever a fan, he stands on the gas dude! He will be at Calistoga on labor day weekend without the wings!
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

I've really never asked him why he went wingless. I figure like most of the other young guys that ventured that way, it was a quicker way to advance to the big leagues. He sure has made a legion of fans in Indiana and other places where he's strutted his stuff. Sounds like Oklahoma got a taste of it the other night at Creek Co.
I heard a month or so ago he was going to race at Calistoga. If he can run that place like Terre Haute watch out!

Ive seen him run at Manzy's big 1/2 mile a few times and to tell the truth with the calibre of drivers who show up for the Western World for instance,http://www.motorsport.com/news/article.asp?ID=275140 he doesn't stand out as much. Don't get me wrong, he's a good wheel man and he stands on it, but you had better be smooth as well at Manzy.

I'm not sure what year but he was the WHOLE show at East Bay running topless a few years back. I think he came from the rear in his heat a couple of times and possibly the B and A. He passed more cars then the rest of the field that night. He also tried to leave the ball-park, virtually impossible, at Tunica, Mississippi with the World of Outlaws a while back also. He's worth the price of admission most nights, all by himself. Take It Easy....

I wish there had been one more caution at Creek County the other night, cause surely Daron would have won. Always exciting, especially in the family car. Such as most other racers, looking for sponsorship opportunities.
I'll agree with OKC 12, the midget feature was terrible the other night. Neat track though, and reminded me a bit of Little Belleville. It surely didnt look much bigger than Little Belleville.
